Hi Holly-

The community map exists on the PHP code base and we'd like to think about how to migrate it to Bedrock.

http://www.mozilla.org/community/#mozilla

The purpose of the map is to help Mozillian explore all the areas of Mozilla and learn about areas where they might be able to contribute.

Would we be able to represent this visually alongside (not literally alongside, but in a complimentary manner) the community info currently found under http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/contribute/#location

Let me know when you are available to talk about this in more detail.

Thanks for thinking about this,
Jen

Is this bug a dupe of bug 839563? That bug is about mapping local community sites based on the physical location of those communities. These sites are a specific subset of Mozilla's web universe.

The Community Map was an attempt to connect together all of Mozilla's sites in some way. It was also not a literal map tied to geography but a virtual map showing connections.

IMO, these are two separate bugs and solve for two different things.

* The local maps solve the problem of letting people in an area know how to connect with other Mozillians near them.

* The community map solved the problem of navigating Mozilla's 200+ web sites. For example, there was a time when you couldn't navigate from one given Mozilla site to another because there were no links between them. Tabzilla in some way could be considered v2 of this map that solves for this, so maybe this bug is better as fixed if we don't want to redo the map?
Hi David-

You are totally right. I was momentarily thrown off by the word map combined with the word community and spending too much time thinking about the other project.

Thanks,
Jen

Good point about the naming -- if this gets refreshed it probably needs to be called something else :)
Any efforts in the last year or so get us closer to this map? Updates?
