Details
(Whiteboard: [bugday-20131016])
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (masking-agent; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130326150557
Steps to reproduce:
What I did.
I used firefox 21, found a bug, & I am now reporting it here.
Actual results:
What happened?
IMPORTANT: Duplicating this bug requires you to install any version of a firefox addon called UNPLUG. I use Unplug v2.055beta.
Anyway, I recently tried using firefox 21, installed Unplug v2.055beta, & went to youtube to download a few videos. With firefox 21, if I go to youtube, use Unplug to "copy" a video's URL, & paste that URL into a new tab's address bar, firefox will PLAY that video in the new tab.
Expected results:
What should have happened?
In firefox 3.6 to firefox 20 (20 is the version that I'm staying with), if I went to youtube, used Unplug (including 2.055beta) to "copy" a video's URL, & pasted that URL into a new tab's address bar, firefox would DOWNLOAD-&-SAVE that video to where I told it to.
This is the PREFERRED behavior, because if I just wanted to PLAY a video, I could just go to youtube & PLAY it at youtube.

I have went to firefox's program folder & deleted "Updater.exe". I will TEST later releases of firefox from time to time, but I will ALWAYS have firefox 20 installed & I will STAY with firefox 20 until this bug is fixed in a future version of firefox.

Try to set media.windows-media-foundation.enabled to false in about:config

Sorry about the late reply. That setting IS set to false by default in firefox 20. Did you mean in firefox 21?

Somehow Firefox is able to play the video itself. In the past, it was not able to play it, so it was showing the download UI.

The ability to play a video directly is a feature, not a bug. It's like the ability to directly view images not embedded in a page.
Maybe it is possible to disable the direct playing using settings like those which can be seen in Preferences → Applications, but I don't know if that's separate for the embedded files.
Component: Untriaged → File Handling
Summary: Firefox 21 has problems with DOWNLOAD-&-SAVING videos. → Firefox 21 has problems with DOWNLOAD-&-SAVING videos: it plays a video when its URL is entered
