There are 79 pages in the mozilla.com svn repo that are mostly press-releases (a few translated into pt-BR and a few FAQ pages that accompanied press releases). As the PHP site is being replaced, these pages will have to be ported. We could port them to Bedrock, but before we do that, I wondered if they should go on the press blog. They could possibly be added as old wordpress blog posts with old publish dates (and we'd have to setup redirects). Please advise. Here's the list: http://www.mozilla.org/pt-BR/press/mozilla-2008-06-17.html http://www.mozilla.org/pt-BR/press/mozilla-2008-06-17-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/pt-BR/press/mozilla-2008-05-28.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-foundation.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-09-17-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-10-24.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-06-17.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-06-30.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-02-09.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-03-28.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-03-27.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-02-19-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-04-27.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-11-18.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-08-18.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-09-17.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2010-01-21-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-01-07.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-05-13.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-07-04.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-02-07.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-09-14-02.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-05-16.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-12-7.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-02-17.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-06-14.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-12-2.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-08-10.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-02-16.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-10-19.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-02-03.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-10-01-02.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-05-03.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-12-11.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-04-19.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-08-28.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-03-02.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-10-11.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-12-03.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-11-07.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-06-16.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-07-28.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-04-12.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-02-02.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-11-09.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-12-15.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-11-22.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-01-12.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-06-17-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-10-24-02.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-08-10.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-01-24.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-11-29.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2009-06-30.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-08-02.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-02-24.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-09-14-01.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-01-07.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-08-03.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-11-3.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2003-10-15.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-01-25.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2007-03-28.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-07-02.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-10-03.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-09-20.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-11-30.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2009-06-30-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-12-22.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-02-19.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-02-26.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-03-04.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-04-18.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-01-07-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2005-03-23.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2009-03-31.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-12-04.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2008-05-28.html http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/mozilla-2004-06-15.html
Mike and Erica- Do you want these old press releases ported to the press blog or deleted? Thx, Jen
Priority: -- → P3
I would like to see them ported to the press blog, but only if we can position them chronologically with the other blog posts (i.e., not hiding our newer announcements). I don't want them to be deleted and can't think of a better place for them. Erica has more background on these old announcements and I'll defer to her on the best place for them, but I would recommend moving to our press blog.
these are very old but we don't want to lose them. do we/can we have an archive section? we don't do many press releases, so would be happy to have them just under the "Mozilla News" tag and we've talked about moving the press releases tag all together.
Thanks for the feedback, Mike and Erica. We don't have a proper "archive" section now. I like the idea of adding them to the press blog, and therefore keeping all press content in one place. Cmore - thoughts? Craigcook - could you please advise on Steven's suggestion that "They could possibly be added as old wordpress blog posts with old publish dates"?

Yup, we can totally backdate blog posts and they won't appear as new. We're also working to set up a pt-BR press center blog so we'll have a place for those soon.

The entire /en-US/press/ directory only gets 40-80 page views daily. The majority of the views are to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/faq/fx/. That's almost no traffic. The actually press releases above get about 20 page views average daily across *all* press releases. Most the 20 page views is going only a small subset of the press releases above, i.e. the 80/20 rule. I've seen this same type of request come up a lot in website transitions. No one wants to delete the old news-based content because it is historical and the content owners want to have them available somewhere. Since "news" usually means timely recent content, old news rarely ever gets much traffic from the world. So, a lot of internal dev time is spent on importing old news into a newer system where it still receive little traffic. I don't support this type of activity as it is a not good use of time. I would suggest that we just bundle up the entire press directory, move it all over to http://www-archive.mozilla.org/ site, and put in a redirect to the content. Search engines will still find it given the 301 redirect that we will put into place.

Hi Steven- I met with the PR team today and their preference would be to move all the old press releases to Word Press. Thx, Jen
Component: Legacy PHP system → blog.mozilla.org
Product: www.mozilla.org → Websites
(In reply to Jennifer Bertsch [:jbertsch] from comment #7) > I met with the PR team today and their preference would be to move all the > old press releases to Word Press. Excellent. Craig Cook has said that he has access to do this. I'm also glad to help, but would need to be given temporary access to the Word Press admin.
