I'd like to use paas to host an bot that can automatically ping a pair of mailing lists. This means it would need to be able to send a low volume of email (something like 1 / week to two recipients).

Can this be done with the current paas setup?
:lonnen - i don't see why not. would you be hosting the mta on the paas node itself?

I could. What's your recommendation for best practice?
the more i think about this, the more i see potential for security concerns. i believe we should put a mail relay in the paas vlan for these sorts of events.

i am going to /cc :michal` from our security group to add any further comments he see necessary.
Yes, it's best to use a mail relay for this. In fact that's the only way :) Having a mail relay gives us some control and it's easy to setup. The last thing I'd like to do is to have some compromised application become a spam relay.
^ created bug to have our standard mail relays configured to accept mail from the dev and production paas vlans/domains.
Thanks!

i am going to close this bug off since this should all work as expected. :lonnen - please reopen/let me know if you experience any issues sending email from the paas environments.
