In Firefox 24.0a1 (2013-05-31) I am not able to pin a site to the Firefox jump list by dragging the icon on the left of the address bar to the Firefox icon on the taskbar. This feature did work for me on Firefox 21.0 and all previous versions of Firefox. In Firefox 24.0a1 I am able to pin a site to my jump list by opening my jump list and clicking on the pin icon to the right of one of my frequently visited sites. But this means I can only pin frequently visited sites. In Firefox 21.0 and earlier I used to be able to pin any site to my jump list by dragging the icon on the left of the address bar to the Firefox icon on the taskbar. I have not tested this feature in Firefox 22 and 23, since I do not have those versions installed.
This screenshot is taken when trying to pin a site to the jump list. The area of interest is in the red circle. I have photoshopped the mouse icon onto the screenshot because mouse icons do not appear in screenshots.

But in 24.0a(today) I have no frequently visited sites lits……
Works for me http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/3c6f2394995d Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20130531 Firefox/24.0 ID:20130531031002
For me it's not working both on FF 21 and Nightly 24.0a1 (2013-06-02).
I played a bit with this and I found out that if the Firefox version that you open it`s not your default browser you will not be able to pin into jump list. Tested this on Nightly 24.0a1 (buildID: 20130531031002), Firefox 21 RC (buildID: 20130511120803), Firefox 23 beta 1 (buildID: 20130625125232). To make it the default browser go to Options->Advanced->General and click "Make Firefox the default browser".

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. It's good that we now know why it works for some and doesn't for others. This needs to be fixed, you should be able to pin a site to the jump list even if Firefox is not the default browser. Could you change the status of this bug from unconfirmed to confirmed?
I can reproduce this bug using Windows 7 64 bit and the latest beta, the release version 23, Firefox 22 and 21. The bug is also reproducible using Google Chrome

Given this also happens with numerous versions of Firefox and also happens with Chrome, I'm inclined to think this is how Microsoft has designed Windows taskbar pinning to work. If someone can find a browser other than Internet Explorer which allows for taskbar pinning by drag&drop from the address bar when it is *not* the default browser feel free to reopen. In that case we might consider this as an enhancement request. However, I don't see any evidence that this is a *bug* in Firefox.
