User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20130601 Firefox/23.0 (Nightly/Aurora)
Build ID: 20130601004016

Steps to reproduce:

I altered the text within an element using the browser's Inspector. Note that changes do not actually have to be made to the text: simply selecting and deselecting the text will produce the same result.

Actual results:

Whitespace preceding and following the text was automatically removed.

Expected results:

It should not have been removed. The whitespace is usually redundant as it is automatically collapsed within the web page, but this is not the case when the element has the white-space preserved using CSS. The text within elements with the white-space preserved also exhibits this behaviour (see testcase), which cannot be overridden by any means that I know of.

FWIW, the feature seems to be called "Markup panel".
