User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20130512193848 Steps to reproduce: I opened following URL: http://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griechisches_Alphabet Actual results: Some of the listed greek characters are not displayed. Instead grey boxes are shown. Expected results: The characters should be displayed like in the desktop version of firefox (tested on FF for latest ubuntu)
OS: Linux → Android
Hardware: x86_64 → All
Which device, Android version and build of Firefox are you using? This probably depends on the phone and fonts available. On my HTC One and Galaxy S4 I don't see this issue. Can you also attach a screenshot?
Cell: Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505;Android 4.2.2; Build JDQ39.I9505XXUAMDM; Kernel 3.4.0-526204 Firefox: latest from Google Play Store Screenshot: Sry - the key combo 'home + on/off' does not make screenshots on my s4. got grey rectangles instead of characters. For example the character for Beta is displayed in upper and lower case - but not the alternative char (in column 'Var').
Yes, this definitely depends on the fonts available on the device. It looks like neither Droid Sans nor Roboto include "full" Greek character support; they only have the basic (modern) alphabet and single-accented vowels, but lack archaic and variant characters and many of the classical accented letters. The same is true of the Open Sans that we ship as part of Firefox/Android. Hence, the variant characters, accented forms, etc., will only display if the device vendor has included an additional font with enhanced character coverage.
