I am running 9.1 with all the updates (including 2.5.2 jre). Of course I
shouldn't had installed all of them but I did. now action menu's won't work all
the way.. anyhow..
I ran the installer, for the nightly release. While installing , after finishing
the downloading of the installer files, it went to just a plain blank dia-log
box. I thought it had crashed but with peek-a-boo and macbugs told me otherwise.
After about 5 minutes, it then finished doing whatever it did and gave me this
odd box that was logo and transfer bar but no package/file info (see url). It
stayed like that untill I clicked resume, at which it did something (it was too
fast for me to tell what) with a chatzilla file, at 21-ish k file size. then
went into installing, it blooped through its thing and was done.
Its just the installer from the site, ver 5.0 M11. It downloaded Build 2001062608
Below (for those that for whoever wants it) a stdlog printout (although it
changed, might be useful otherwise). Now you can peek at what I had open...
Enjoy - I hope this is the right "catagory".. it seemed the right one but I just
geussed sence it wasn't pointed out. I would feel this as a near show-stopper,
but thats only if people use the installer while the default is just a .sea .
Also there needs to be a english/us/uk/etc in the browser localizations..
Bugzilla refused to let me go without selecting one, but I couldn't pick us!

Can you give exact steps (URLs, etc) how to reproduce this?
Anyway, this is not a localisation issue, this is somewhere in installer.
assinging to that component.

First of all sorry about it being in the wrong catagory (hey, it said BROWSER in
it right?). I gotta stop using my computer and doing stuff like this at 2 am..
Ok here's what I did. went throught the legal stuff (well I scrolled for a
little bit) and then hit ok. Then did a custom install, and selected to have it
install in penguin:downloads:mozillia_builds . I didn't notice untill I thought
about it today, that the installer MOVED the folder (I had made a new folder in
downloads) to the root, so it ended up in penguin:mozillia_builds . So that
might be another bug. Anyhow I then went and clicked more or less randomly on
which packages (turned them on,off, backon, etc) deciding on what to get and then
selected Qa,nav, and chatzillia. Then it did as above. I *think* it paused on
a.xml file, (if there is anything between nav and chat) for after the pause it
loaded up the chatzillia .xml. So maybe they updated the .xml file within the
last 8 or so hours (its now 10) ?
This morning, I did a install (I more or less went strait through). Installed in
penguin:downloads:mozillia_test . I then just unselected them all and selected
qa,chat, nav (bottem up If I recall) and it came up just fine, although I did
see it pause for a few seconds before anything happened. I tried installing with
everything running and got a blank window and it essently crashed my computer (I
had mozillia running with the install alongside). The second time just the
installer from a fresh boot went without the hitch (look above). Although it
didn't download a newer build ;p So I'm not sure what happened last night -
Maybe it was because I called it mozillia_builds and that was a problem (part of
the path for the source?).
Oh well, more to come.
After fiddling some more, (reinstalling about a dozen times) I got it to happen
again, twice. I got it to happen at the same point as before, (inbetween nav and
chat, at the end of nav-). I also got it to happen during the install of the
english lang pack. (http://homepage.mac.com/macmouse4/picture2.gif). I can't
take a screen shot in the application itself, but if I go to desktop I can take
one. The "blank" I get is by moving another window ontop of it. It then goes
entirely blank (commonly happens to a crashed application) and I can't do
anything to the menu's (but I can switch to it). After waiting the few minutes,
it then comes with just the buttions on the bottom (no logo or progress bar). If
I click anywhere, it will then refresh and come up as in
(http://homepage.mac.com/macmouse4/picture.gif).
I've more or less pinpointed to at least some of the causes of it. The
favoriates, (which is part of macos 8 and up if I recall) use of that in the
destination diallog. I have a favoriates to my download folder
penguin:downloads. Without use of the favoriates the bug doesn't occur. Also the
"moving" folder hasn't reaccured yet - (I proably just saved it in the wrong
place, sence the favoriates goes the location of the downloads folder in the
installer while normally it goes inside it). I would sugest that get that back
to "normal" but thats proably just my preference. oddly, I have gotten it to not
happen even with the use of the favoriates, and that I have to scrool the legal
stuff first before it happens (and I haven't done it all the way so perhaps its
a certin place (I know it happened once at the 10.0 part)).Although I just might
not have done it enough times for it to happen without Scrolling the legal.
Also, the bug is part of the downloading part, so a cached version of the
install files doesn't give any problems. Each time it happened I also created a
new folder (from foo to moz) and (although its proably just coincidence) it only
happened while with a name that had "moz" in it (it froze with just "moz" as the
folder's name).
i hope all this helps. So its more or less a minor oddball occurance, but should
be fixed sence it could be related to something else and a lot of people use the
favoriates (and you allready have it in the save destination). Perhaps a "temp"
fix would be to remove the favoriates alltogether from the installer.. allthough
thats not the "proper" way but it would proably work.

Syd, Samir, is this the problem with not processing the apple events properly?
I think syd mentioned something about it.

Confirmed under Mac/2001080214/9.1/stub installer, except that the installation failed
after approximately twenty seconds of zero progress with the error message,
"Installation failed due to error: -1006".
This may be a duplicate of either bug 90197 or bug 89720.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Confirmed also under Mac/2001080214/9.1/full installer, except that no error message was
displayed; installer simply sat there, although Cancel button worked okay.
It seems Custom Installations, in general, don't work under Mac OS.
