880787 - Provide access to Builder users who are locked out by a Persona bug

Since Persona enabled Identity Bridging, users who had a Persona account which used a Yahoo alias as the email can no longer access their account (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/mozilla.dev.identity/Be7-ucN-PI8).

For the Builder, this means that such users can't access any add-ons they've developed.

We need a way to fix this for them: I'm not sure what the best approach would be. Ideally we'd be able to reset their account so they could pick a different email address.

If I'm reading it right, the linked thread talks about 3 solutions, all on the Persona side.  Can you talk more about what happened and what the suggested changes are?  Identity Bridging is all new to me.

Also note that Builder has no active developers and is scheduled to be shutdown later this year.  It'll be an uphill battle to get any traction on fixes.

I'm not certain that this is due to the Persona/Yahoo alias bug, but it sounds very much like it. The user says:

"My original email address was different and I created an alias through Yahoo and used that to sign in originally. For some reason, when it goes to authenticate now, it pulls up my original email address and thinks that I don't have an account or throws an error because it thinks they are different accounts."

I'm afraid I don't know much about this problem, but I do understand that there is currently no fix for it on the Persona side. CC-ing Dan.

I have suggested that he should use the SDK directly instead, but he can't really migrate to another tool if he's locked out of all his add-ons.

Yea, Persona's current bridging broke Yahoo users that use aliases. Likely the best thing to get this fixed is to complain to the Persona team on the bugs[1], to get the hotfix deployed faster. We have a fix in testing, but other things hog our attention too.

The builder project has been discontinued as of April 1st, 2014.
