User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20130607 Firefox/23.0 (Nightly/Aurora) Build ID: 20130607004017 Steps to reproduce: Using TB Daily 24.0a1 (2013-06-06) : however I have noticed it on previous builds as well, I didn't note exactly when it started. Actual results: Daily crashed but the Mozilla Crash Reporter didn't popup, instead the windows one did. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. I have checked that crash reporter is enabled in application.ini and there is no environment var set in Windows to disable, as indicated here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Breakpad Expected results: Mozilla crash reporter windows should have popped up so the report can be sent to Mozilla
Yesterday I crashed with 24.0a1 (2013-06-08) and got crash reporter, so it definitely works in some situations. Are you running 64bit thunderbird, or 32bit?
I'm running Daily in general. If I have an issue I move back to earlybird temporarily. embarrassingly I don't know if I've got the 64 bit, I can say I got it from here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/ I got the win64-x86 installer dated 9th June. actually I'm one version up on that now as my daily has just updated, so whatever's the next release what may be a point to note as it may affect where the crashreporter is I currently have 3 versions of thunderbird on the go: release , earlybird and daily I have release installed in the default location, but the other 2 are installed under folder apps/mozilla as "earlybird" & "thunderbird daily" is there any way to check if this is the issue - e.g. can I switch on some kind of logging to show where it's trying to run the crash reporter from
THen you are running 64bit thunderbird. The reporter should generally work in 64 bit, but I suggest the most productive path is install the 32 bit thunderbird win32.installer.exe and see what happens from there.
do you mean 32bit daily? because I can't control when it will crash and there's no point going back to the release version to see if it happens, because that prob. won't even crash! and anyway we're trying to see if daily is the problem. what about my q about logging? Do you not think that's worth a go?
we don't know what's crashing, so we don't know what to log yet. My recommendation is 32bit daily from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/
ok will do and will use that for a bit instead of 64bit. just have to hope it crashes, eh =;-)
one other thing, I can't see anywhere obvious in TB itself to check if it's 32 or 64 bit - how do I know which one it will get when it automatically downloads the nightly build? perhaps the 32bit download I now have will then be overwritten by a 64bit build?
On windows 64bit and 32bit load in different directories, Program Files and Program Files*32 respectively. And if you install 32 bit, and run 32bit it will only update the 32 bit.

Summary: Crash Reporter enabled, windows crash reporter still displaying → Crashes (Crash Reporter is enabled, but Windows crash reporter displays)
I am running TB release in the progam files location. Because of this I have setup daily to run from a different location: 32bit from "apps/daily 32bit" and 64 bit from "apps/daily 64bit" I have added a new bug for the updating issue : 883743 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=883743
daily 25.0a1 just crashed and the correct crash reporter opened. I guess this must have been fixed then
