I've created a tab for "teaching guides" and added the links discussed in email.

Please add to these https://docs.google.com/a/mozillafoundation.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkvvpcilLIOndFE1MURBQjRFcjV3cHlpVElDVmhGRHc#gid=14

under the teaching guides tab.
Talked to Laura about this, and here's the update
whats the update?
Talked to Laura about this, and here's the update:

First off, ignore that first link above, Here's the link you'll want to use to add/track Makes for the /Teach page

https://docs.google.com/a/mozillafoundation.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkvvpcilLIOndFE1MURBQjRFcjV3cHlpVElDVmhGRHc#gid=22

Secondly, for the "Recommended" Mozilla makes, we talked about publishing them under an official account for the Mentor team, so mentor.makes.org. You'll need to create a shared persona, paste in the Thimble HTML and republish. Then go and give them a tag called "Guide" and a tag called "Recommended" (no quotes). The Guide tag puts any make on the /teach page, and the Recommended tag puts it under the "Recommended" filter.

Lastly, we have two featured makes from Chad and Kevin of NWP. We'll want to have them publish using the new version of Thimble. They'll either want to publish under their individual accounts, or create a branded account for National Writing Project and publish under that one. Once they publish, we'll tag their Makes as "Featured" and "Guide" (no quotes).

So somebody needs to own communication with NWP so they can publish their guides under their own brand, and we need to set up the persona account for the mentor team if they want to go that route
Awesome, thanks!

Jacob, only modifier here: "featured" and "recommended" are tags that are added with the MakeAPI admin tool. So these should not be added in thimble.

They should only add "guide".
I was thinking we would also add "guide" in the MakeAPI admin tool as well, no? Or does that tag have to be added in Thimble?
AWSM Laura and I will own communicating to NWP
A few things:

1. Will update with the selected Mentor subdomain today (voting in our team call, will get an email address ASAP).
2. Need to understand why the two kits pages are marked "doesn't work for the site" – If we have to rethink these two pages – well, when should we do this? Why won't they work? These are the two big ones, the doors to 95% of our content, they need to be included.
3. Please give us a deadline for getting you updated links and tell us as soon as the production thingie is up. I can email the NWPers but need to tell them how long they have to make their subdomains and get their kits into queue.
4. Writing a TAG with GUIDE into the Thimble page: The actual tag (syntax and nomenclature) would be great – don't want to go digging for it only to end up doing it incorrectly.

Thanks!
Voted. Subdomain should be mozteach.makes.org, I emailed JLin about getting mozteach@mozillafoundation.org already :)

This page:
https://thimble.webmaker.org/p/lhsq/

Seems to serve the same purpose as /teach in that it highlights our teaching guides. So it isn't an actual guide, its an index of guides. webmaker.org/teach should now be the door to 95% of your content (if not more!) :)

So its duplication.

This one:
https://thimble.webmaker.org/p/lhs8/

Is "hackable guide prototype", so yes does seem to fit - but then links to lots of stuff not in thimble.

This is fine, but lets try and gradually transition this stuff.

The deadline for our stuff is ---now. We need to begin transitioning from "legacy thimble" to the new instance. We'll be sending these instructions shortly.

As for others, they can roll in as ready. If NWP wants to be early adopters, awesome!

Agreed. Will put this in the mail.

So we should do this ourselves via a service now request:
https://mozilla.service-now.com/

Unless JLin already helped you out. We'd want to do an email alias.

Correct, but for launch we should link to this index of guides because we don't have capacity to make those 10+ landing pages right now. Unless tomorrow is a miracle day and I can pump them out (just need to copy and paste the code, swap all the relative for absolute links)...

Heh? Everything on this page links to thimble makes except for 2 links to twitter and a link to bugzilla.

>The deadline for our stuff is ---now.
Yeah...Just didn't want to have to write "Hi Chad and Kevin, can you right now drop everything and do this for me? I know you're both school teachers, and participating in your spare time, but I need you to follow these instructions RIGHT NOW." Instead – cause that's rude – the two NWP makes will go up ASAP, but if they're missing for June 15ths launch, so be it.

Yeah, did that yesterday already.

Please send the production blahdy bloop URL ASAP. I'm on a 9 hour time difference, working while you're sleeping.

Thanks!
mozteach@mozillafoundation.org is now live. Ready for our domaininininniinnig!!!
Hey Laura:

You should be able to go to the MakeAPI Editor - https://makeapi.mofoprod.net/login - and sign in using the Persona account that's attached to mozteach@mozillafoundation.org

(make sure it says https:// in the address bar, otherwise the login can get screwy. If it says "access forbidden" then something went wrong with Chris [cade@mozillafoundation.org] setting you up as admin)

Once you're in the backend, you can start re-publishing the /teach Thimble Makes by going to https://thimble.mofoprod.net - signing in as mozteach and hitting publish.

Check that this sends them to the backend, and then edit the Title, Description, Thumbnail URL* and set the tags as thimble:project,featured,guide

(Note: the tags have to formatted with a comma in between and NO SPACE in between).

That should be it! Refresh this page https://webmaker.mofoprod.net/teach - and they should be there.

If you want help with some of the labor, let me know, I'll pick up whatever you haven't completed in the morning. If you have trouble getting in the MakeAPI Editor, it's not a huge deal, I can put in the guide and featured tags for you.

The bare minimum I need from you is to publish from the mozteach account because at the moment I can't do that for you. It would also be helpful if you could do some thumbnails. they need to be 500x500 and you can insert them in the Thimble project itself instead of the backend editor by using this meta tag at the <head> of the page

<meta name="webmaker:thumbnail" content="http://media3.giphy.com/media/VmLltE33Zct7a/original.gif">
<meta name="webmaker:description" content="Put your description in here!">

* I have a bug filed here - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=881884 - to give us an Amazon S3 bucket for storing all our assets, like thumbnails. If that doesn't get resolved in time, just store them someone that you have access to and I can copy them over to the official storage area when it's ready

Let me know if you have questions and want some help!

<meta name="webmaker:description" content="Put your description in here!"> is actually incorrect as of this comment.

For now use this:

<meta name="description" content="Put your description in here!">

Going to fix it to work with both, but for now, don't use webmaker:
Just to clear up any confusion, here's how you can tag things to get them on the /teach page:

<meta name="webmaker:tags" content="guide">
<meta name="webmaker:tags" content="webmaker:featured">

There's a lot of confusion surrounding these meta tags, just remember one thing:
the name attribute is **thimble specific syntax**, and has nothing to do with the Make API. The full app tag ("webmaker:featured") must be put in the content attribute so that thimble gives it to the Make API, allowing it to be fetched for display on the front page
K, we're going to go with what is there, need to republish these due to a css error. Just need to load up and republish.

Could use a password :)
