What happens to you webmaker domain if you sign up for within Popcorn Maker/Thimble

Just thought up a use case where a first time user is given the link to http://popcorn.webmaker.org/templates/basic and signs up for Persona to save and publish their project from the Popcorn Maker tool itself (or Thimble).
They haven't actually been to the webmaker.org site for signing up, so are they redirected in order to claim their subdomain? Is there a place in the tool environment for them to claim their subdomain?
If they navigate to webmaker.org while they're signed in will it prompt them to claim their subdomain?
Or is one automatically assigned to them? Hopefully not since you can't yet change your subdomain once you enter it.

Jacob it does it in the tool environment. It asks you to claim a space. You can try it now.
(assuming everything is normally with our servers ATM)
Go https://thimble-node.mofostaging.net/
Make sure you're logged our
Sign in with persona, use a persona email you dont have associated
It'll ask you to register.
