i'm using an dialup connection to the internet :-( to save money, i often switch between online/offline. since i activated auto-fetching in mail, i'm getting "connection failed" messages every ten minutes. i would like this dialog to ask me wheter i want to switch to offline. i think such a button should be in all the "connection failed" and related messages.

Cool idea. This is one of the very rare cases when an error or note alert should have dismissing buttons in it besides `OK'. (Bug 41720 2001-02-20 is another example.) As such, it's probably going to show up yet another API bug in nsIPrompt, but never mind. It's quite possible for the user to click `OK', then go to the `File' menu and choose `Work Offline'; but they might not realize that they can do this. You could give them instructions in the alert on how to do it, but that would be even more cluttersome than just providing a button to do the dang thing in the alert itself. +----------------------------------------------------+ |::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::| +----------------------------------------------------+ | _ Mozilla could not check for new messages on | | (X) pophost.foo.bar, because there was no | | response from the server. | | | | Check that your Internet connection is | | working, or contact your service provider. | | | | ( Work Offline ) (( OK )) | +----------------------------------------------------+ (No, I'm not happy with that last sentence.) Ben, what's the correct bug number for the RFE you filed? (It's not 82188.)

Isnt this a dupe of bug 76111?

Simon -- can you verify that you are still seeing the original behaviour, i.e. connection failed messages when you are disconnected. I am not seeing this: ISDN dialup Win2K Mozilla 1.6b José -- to me it is a dup, so this could be the bug that monitors the UI for this feature.

we now detect online state using the OS (on windows and linux, iirc), which ameliorates this issue.
