Nobody, Taras included, knows why we do the special-front-page-and-jump-and-rearrange-the-page-on-keypress thing. Stop it. We can always put the query syntax reference in the blank area where the search results will go. We'll have more space for it with the search field at the top, too.
When we start with multi-tree support, we probably need some sort of index page that lists all the trees.
Or we can rely on the popup menu in the upper right (soon to be where the dir path is) to cover it. There's precedent in the FF search box, with the popup of search engines.
Ah, but what about browsing the tree?
There would be at least 2 dozen trees on dxr, and some of them probably need some sort of small description.
This is complete on the UI branch. Tree descriptions will be available via a custom pop-up widget; see the mockup at https://wiki.mozilla.org/File:Dxr_folder_tree_menu.png.
