The new triangle, that is now more sort of a button is taking up too much space. You can see this by mousing over a mailnews button (then you'll see their borders) and verify that the triangle-button is overlapping the borders with looks bad. Can't modern3 just use some simply triangle, instead of that flashy 3d button? Something that looks more plain.
no, a simple triangle button is not big enough for users to click. which is why we went with a more substantial button
Ok, makes sense - but you still need to fix the out of bounds problem.
We're not going to make it any smaller. The out-of-bounds problem is an unfortunate consequence of the larger arrow. We don't want the arrow to overlap the icon, so moving it right is out of the question. We can't make the icon any wider either. It doesn't really look that bad anyway.
