Several of us noticed on IRC that recent nightly/m-c builds briefly hang when Adblock Plus is enabled. If it is disabled, the hangs go away. Setting platform/OS to All/All because between us we checked on Linux and Windows, and both seem to have this issue. Tentatively, we believe this may be a recent regression.
I was seeing this for a while, but can't reproduce right now. If you see it again, can you check about:telemetry / Add-on Details and look for {d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d} (or the name "Adblock Plus" in the details) and see what the "startup_MS" value is?
Blocks: abp
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160114025131
used a debug build from: http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-central-linux64-debug/1452768691/

I can confirm that Firefox still briefly hangs on startup if Adblock Plus 2.7 is enabled.
Unfortunately, I couldn't say what the "startup_MS" value is since there is no data collected under the Add-on Details section.

I doubt this is still relevant after the switch to WebExtension.
