Details
By collecting functional data and incorporating mapfiles into the link process, we should be able to reduce the working set and improve performance. bug 65845 proposes a similar scheme for the windows platform. I've generated Solaris mapfiles and incorporated them into a test build here. I'll attach all the info. as soon as I get a chance.

It would be nice to a have variant configuration for Solaris that handled the case of GCC configured with a full GNU toolchain. GNU ld handles startup constructor setup better than the native linker. I experimented too see what would be involved in using GCC configured for GNU binutils, and the needed changes were limited to the `security' module. Three changes were needed: 1) Replace the MAPFILE rule in corecore/rules.mk for SunOS5 with one that copies the rule for Linux-based systems. 2) Change nss/lib/freebl/Makefile to have a DSO_LDOPTS like this: DSO_LDOPTS += -shared -Wl,-Bsymbolic 3) Change nss/lib/{nss,smime,ssl}/Makefile to replace the SunOS rule for MAPFILE, etc. with one that has a MKSHLIB like this: MKSHLIB += --version-script $(MAPFILE) (The -Wl stuff in the Linux conditional won't work because the linker that ends-up getting run is the raw linker, not the compiler.)

This is duplicate of the 149152 that is fixed by using mapfiles. I own the other bug and updated that with a patch. Ann does not work on this bug any more. Can the owner of this module close this as DUP of 149152. nidheesh

This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state. If you can confirm that this report still applies to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it back to the NEW state along with a comment on how you reproduced it on what Build ID, or if it's an enhancement request, why it's still worth implementing and in what way. If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar). If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state. Query tag for this change: mass-UNCONFIRM-20090614
