Linux CVS build pulled around 12 hours ago

When i click the arrow in urlbar to get the dropdown with recently visited
sites, the whole toolbar instead resizes to a height of approx 2 inches.
Nothing displays in the now "inline" dropdown that seemingly occupies the whole
urlbar. It is truncated to the right side, and pushes throbber out of sight.
It's also empty and impossible to use. I have to close the window and start a
new in order to use urlbar again.

Building on RH7.1 with lates errata gcc.
I'm seeing the same on a recent CVS build on Win2k, although the URL bar doesn't
resize by quite as much. It also makes the URL bar unusable.
Severity: normal → major
Keywords: regression
OS: Linux → All
Also seen on gcc-2.95 Linux build, no way to get urlbar back to original
size, must restart browser.
I'm seeing this on a linux cvs build from 20010630. The behavior got somewhat
better after I removed my localstore.rdf file from my profile dir, and cleared
my url bar history. Now it centers the url in my location bar when I hit the
arrow. Each url I add to the history makes the location bar taller when I hit
the arrow. Opening a new window gets it back to normal.
Also seeing this on Build 2001-06-30-08, Win2k sp2, Installer

I believe the height of the box is dependent on the number of entries in the
dropdown history: I have no entries. The height of mine is 3 lines.
Any more detailed and specific steps to reproduce the bug?
BTW, that's a *Jumbo* URL bar...
it will get as tall as it can maximum be, and *attempts* to become as wide as
the widest entry in recent history, appearantly. When that is wider than the
browser window, it truncates the rest of taskbar chrome to the right.
the problem - as the screenshotwas meant to illustrate - is that what used to be
a history dropdown now doesn't drop down but expands url-bar size instead.
It only "kinda" drops down... ****INSIDE**** the url-bar :)
Just a note to say that this happens with either skin.
A friend of mine reproduced this on linux. Just clicking on the down arrow in
the url bar.
This happens only at the first attempt. When bar is messed up, click on
'view:show/hide:Navigation toolbar' twice. After reappearance, the URL
bar looks fine and works as usual. So something with the initialization
of the bar is wrong.
Dupe of bug 88073?
Seems like it, but on linux this wasn't a bug till on the 30th.
Wasn't in a build i made on the 29th.

I believe this is triggered by having a certain type of URL in the dropdown,
perhaps one with a space? It first happened to me after I went to a few shoddy
sites thrown together the frontpage, all poorly named. After I cleared the
Location bar in the prefs, This problem went away, though clicking the dropdown
arrow did cause the current URL to be indented, which is possibly a seperate
problem.
the only "strange" characters i need in urlbar to trigger it is - if your
observation is correct - a = or a ?
I only have the URL to a bugzilla bug there right now, and the bug triggers.
I am seeing this both on a Linux CVS build from June 30th and Windows NT build
2001070204
I have more than 15 URLs on the urlbar, so I can't say for sure what is
triggering this.

Since this problem started happening, I've also experienced something else too.

In an effort to resolve this by clearing history and location bar and opening a
new page, the 'search with for' in grey that drops out right under the location
bar when you type something in there (sometimes) appears at the very top left of
the browser window. Cant say for sure how exactly to duplicate it, but I'll
post a screenshot of it below.
not sure why this would be considered editor issue, marking as dup of 88073

Just to get me into the mailing list. Seen on Windows (still in 2001070808). In
linux (CVS build from yesterday CET 8/7). Do not really remember when this
started to happen, but its been there for a while. Both Linux and Windows URLs
work. But you have to click far right and vertically in middle. Does not matter
what you have in the URL when you click on the "arrow" button (both
www.mozilla.org and empty does the same), neither does it matter what you have
in the history list (clean installation has the same bug).

History seems also to be gone (if you click), if you type it will work as supposed.
