Build ID: 2001061214 FizzillaCFM
On Mac OS X, the symbols
* black spade suit U+2660
* black club suit (shamrock) U+2663
* black heart suit (valentine) U+2665
* black diamond suit U+2666
show up as horizontal/vertical lines, even though they are available in the
Symbol font.
This problem does not occur with the Classic build of Mozilla 0.9.2.

The characters show up properly on my installation, build 2001073005 on Mac OS X
10.0.4.

Interesting. Still doesn't work for me. 2001080105 trunk. Could the Classic
Ymbol font and the Mac OS X Symbol font be in conflict?

The patch for bug 111728 fixes this one, too.

It turns out that my previous comment was incorrect. The reason why this bug
didn't appear in my build but appears in the nighlies is that this bug is
specific to the Carbin version. The bug doesn't show up in the Mach-O build or
in Chimera.

This works fine for me, Mozilla X 2002-08-18-03.
Note that these symbols are available in Hiragino Kaku/Maru/Mincho, Osaka,
#PCMyungjo, #PilGi, Seoul, Symbol, Zapf Dingbats and Apple Gothic, all of which
(except Zapf Dingbats?) come native with Mac OS X. They are also covered by
Arial Unicode MS, Code 2000 and other common big Unicode fonts. I have used
symbols from the Unicode symbol area quite often, and never experienced any
problem. Even IE renders them! (I use Unicode symbol stars at
http://homepage.mac.com/nikd/dvd/moulin_rouge/ et al, and also the Unicode
symbol Yin-Yang in the footer.)
Order of preference is ~/Library/Fonts, /Library/Fonts, /System/Library/Fonts,
then Classic locations, so a font mixup shouldn't be an issue.
