Description

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.2) Gecko/20010628
BuildID: 2001062823

At projectplace.com it is possible to create a project for free
and upload documents to it (amongst other things). When I try to
upload a small pdf file with mozilla 0.9.2 the mozilla icon in the
upper right corner starts scrolling, the mouse cursor turns into the
clock and the status bar in the lower right corner starts scrolling.
Apart from that nothing appers to be happening. I left it for a couple
of minutes before stopping it with the stop button. (Notice that it
worked when I uploaded a text-file)

I realize that this might not be a bug in mozilla but rather in the
implementation of the web-site. The problem is that no feed back is given so it
is really hard to determine where the problem lies.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. First it is necessary to create a project at projectplace.com.
It is possible to do this for free.
2. Click on the icon which corresponds to the new project
3. Click on the icon which corresponds to the document area of
   the new project
4. Go to the uploading page by pressing the upload icon
5. Enter the filename of some pdf file in the file name textbox
6. Pick Adobe PDF for the Mime type
7. Type some name in the name field (I used SPMP)

Actual Results: Nothing, except for scrolling of the mozilla icon as explained
above

Expected Results: Some sort of feedback of whats going on. For instance, could it
not find the file? Has it got no contact with the server? Has
it started sending the file?

I do not see this particular problem in build 2001-07-02-06-trunk on Linux
RedHat 6.2, however when I do upload files they cannot be seen in the Document
Archive. I went to my windows 98 machine and could see these files with IE.

Also there is another problem with this site, that you cannot use it from
windows 98 because of security problems, I filed bug 88839 about it.

I downloaded
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/2001-07-02-06-trunk/mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
and tried to upload a PDF and the same problem (i.e no response) was still
there. I'm running Debian 2.2 if that is any help.

Is there any way that I can help to debug this further?

Actually, uploading did work with 2001-07-02-06-trunk for me too, but I got no
feedback indicating that it did. However, when I tested this with the old
netscape (4.77 on the same Linux Debian system) I could see that the document
was indeed uploaded.

I get the something similar with 0.9.3+ using MacOS 9.1/MacOS X:
I upload an empty file (i.e. 0 bytes)

I'm having a similar problem uploading to one of our sites, with Mozilla 0.9.3
running on Linux. I was able to upload files to the Yahoo Mail site, so I'm
wondering if this bug only shows up on certain servers. The site which showed
the problem is a Java servlet-based site running Apache Jserv 1.1.2 on Solaris
2.6. It uses the open-source com.oreilly.servlet library to process the file
upload ( http://www.servlets.com/cos/index.html ).

To get more information I create a dumb server program which listens on a port
and just prints whatever comes in to a file. This should capture whatever
Mozilla generated. Attached is one such file. I don't know enough about HTTP
to know whether or not this might be invalid, but somebody else should...

The bug still exists in the build 2001111606.
I've got a better URL to check for the bug:

http://validator.w3.org/file-upload.html

Enter a filename there and click "validate this document". Mozilla will be
redirected to http://validator.w3.org/ as if no file was uploaded. Working
browser (e.g. Konqueror) will go to http://validator.w3.org/check and show the
results of the validation.

This bug seems to be related to the bug 82634. The filename is not checked
because it doesn't work at all!

I believe that this bug should be given a very priority - uploading files is a
very basic functionality.

Although file uploading seems to work with http://validator.w3.org/file-upload.html

in mozilla 0.9.6 under Windows (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US;
rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120) trying to uploading a file to the TWiki.org site
( e.g. clicking on any SandBox links at
http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Test/WebHome and trying the Upload link - a free
registration is needed before) still fails.
The operation works with both IE 6 and Opera 5 under Windows 2k.

this bug works for me, on build 2002-01-28-03-trunk... there is however an
evangelism bug 94292 about the document tree not showing on this site...
