Hi-

We'd like to turn on /whatsnew to promote Fx OS in countries where the phone is available.

John - Could we work with your team to create an Fx OS fox image and text to encourage people to learn more about the OS by visiting our Fx OS consumer page?

Pascal - Could your team please translate the text into Spanish and Polish when it is ready?

Alex K- What is the timeline/timeframe to turn on the /whatsnew page? Do we have to turn it on globally?

Thanks everyone,
Jen

Absolutely. Can you file a design bug with the details we'll need?

Sure, do you have an estimate as to when we will receive the text?
Also, does it mean that we will display a whatsnew page with Firefox 23? If we do, is that for all locales or only locales potentially affected by Firefox OS ?
Hi Pascal-

I'm hoping that we could display only for locales affected by Fx OS, but need confirmation from Alex.

Thx,
Jen

Any news on this one?
We can turn /whatsnew off and on per locale and then geo-target specific content.

Hi Jon-

We're ready to start coding this page.

We are waiting on the addition of one more sentence/link to the PSD but it should not significantly disrupt coding. We'll work off the v4 psd (firefox_firstrun_v4) found in the design bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=890117

The page will have 3 versions for testing with different text on each for testing in GA:

#1
Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date.

Now get a smartphone that let's you live every moment to its fullest.

Get Firefox OS (link to /firefox/os page)

#2
Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date.

Now get the same level of choice, innovation and control in a smartphone.

Get Firefox OS (link to /firefox/os page)

#3
Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date.

Now transform the future with a smartphone that makes a difference, not a profit.

Get Firefox OS (link to /firefox/os page)

Ping me if you have any questions!

Thx,
Jen

Hi Jon-

We're actually now waiting on updated copy and text. I'll update this bug when we're ready to code.

Thanks for your patience,
Jen
No problem. I just went over the PSD yesterday, and was planning to start coding tomorrow. I'll stay busy with other tasks until this one's ready.

Thanks for the update!
Hi Jon-

We have sign-off to move forward with the following text:

Congratulations! Your browser is safer and more secure than ever.
Get the same level of choice and innovation in a smartphone.
Learn more about Firefox OS

And image firefox_firstrun-2_v5a.jpg

I've asked MT to add the PSD to bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=890117

Thanks,
Jen
Initial development is complete. A branch has been created and is on demo2 for localization.

PR opened: https://github.com/mozilla/bedrock/pull/1298
The change in the template affects all locales, will the whatsnew page be reverted to the previous template later on? Wouldn't it make sense to have a separate template for this project and keep the already localized one (in almost all of our locales) as it is?
Hi Pascal-

We probably won't revert to the previous template, but will instead move forward with a new template for all locales to talk about the Australis UX changes.

Do you have a recommendation? Jon and I are meeting with Chris this afternoon (Pacific time) to work out any missed technical details of this new whatsnew implementation.

Can you begin L10N work with things as they are now?

Thx,
Jen
Since this is the same template for all locales, I can add the strings to the whatsnew file but all locales will get notified about it, so that's my main concern and the reason I would prefer a separate template, I think we could add in the header of the template a call to a second lang file like whatsnew2.lang so as to not bother locales that won't have this page activated. For the new whatsnew page for Australis, we need the strings soon because this is for all of the locales and among them we have small locales that need a lot of time.
fyi, the current whatsnew file has the new strings in PR 1298 and localizers started translating them, I'll sync with Jennifer on IRC to set up a list of urgent locales we will ping by email directly to speed things up.

This page is on dev:

https://www-dev.allizom.org/pl/firefox/25.0/whatsnew/?oldversion=24.0

When will this page be pushed to production? It can go to production pre-Firefox 25 since users won't hit the page anyway due to Firefox whatsnew being disabled.

This has to be pushed to production before the 29th when Firefox 25 is released.

This is in production, but currently the page isn't activated for "pl". It works on dev because activation checking is disabled on dev. It will work as soon as we activate pl/firefox/whatsnew-fxos.lang. Shall I do that now?
Flags: needinfo?(chrismore.bugzilla)
I see 'pl/firefox/whatsnew.lang' is active, and is used by the new whatsnew-fxos.html template, so I went ahead and activated the new one in r121461.

Merged to prod in r121463. New page in pl should be live shortly.

The new page is now live, but the strings aren't being translated. Perhaps the translations haven't been merged to prod yet?

That would do it. We'll get this pushed today. Thanks :pascalc.
Hey Jen - When will we have the results of this campaign?
Hi Laura-

Chris said that we are seeing traffic to the page as of today, with the launch of Fx 25.

I'll setup a meeting for next week to review data with Gareth.

Thx,
Jen

Hi Pascal and Flod-

Do you remember if we localized this page for Spanish?

Jen

I think we did and it is this file:
http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/mozilla.com/trunk/locales/es-ES/firefox/whatsnew.lang?revision=126660&view=markup

if you can resurect the template on a demo server, we can confirm that visually
