RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 780124

People

(Reporter: maulana.syuhada, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:22.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/22.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130618035212

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to send an email.

Actual results:

An error message occurred, saying:
"An error occured sending mail:
The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: gmx.com (mrgmx101)
Nemesis ESMTP service not available.
No SMTP service
IP address is black listed"

However, the message was recorded as sent, and stored in "sent" folder. In fact it never reaches the destination :(

Expected results:

If IP is blacklisted, the message should be either:
- sent but bounce back
or
- stays in outbox (not sent)

What happened all the messages were recorded as sent (in "sent" folder), and now I have a headache sorting out which message have been delivered which are undelivered, because all marked as "sent". I have to manually contact the recipient whether they have received my email. This is extremely inconvenient!

In the past, after sending a message I felt comfortable when a message marked as sent (moved to "sent" folder), but now everything is messed up, because many of my emails in the "sent" folder in fact didn't reach the recipients.

Is "Sent" an IMAP folder? If yes, that's most likely a duplicate of bug 806285 which in turn was marked as a duplicate of bug 813537.

Please check the server type in Tools > Account Settings, Server Settings tab, and verify in the Copies & Folders tab that sent messages are delivered to a folder on that server.

Actually, bug 780124 should be a better match.
(priority is reserved for developers)
Severity: critical → major
Priority: P3 → --
Summary: IP address is black listed, email not delivered but recorded as sent → "... The mail server sent an incorrect greeting ... No SMTP service IP address is black listed". email not delivered but recorded as sent
Component: Untriaged → Networking: SMTP
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
Yes, the problem (actual result) is similar to Bug 780124:
"I get an error message (as I used to get), but instead of keeping the composer window open, the composer window is closed and the mail (which has not been sent succesfully) ends up in my SentMail."

Though cause (step to reproduce) is different:
Mine was due to IP being blacklisted, whilst Rob's (Bug 780124) was incorrect SMTP.

Has the bug been fixed?
What should I do?

Many thanks!
ps: I'm using POP3 and SMTP.

Cause is irrelevant. After successful connection to SMTP server, any error response in greeting, any error response to SMTP command, can produce that bug.
