This seems like failure of background images to load or get painted (in time, at least). (There's a red background behind the fuchsia.)

Seems like this spike was correlated with the use of different test VMs (possibly with bad clock characteristics), resolved by bug 969590.
Possibly table background images aren't blocking onload? Will take a look soon.
