Hi, for the launch of Firefox OS we're going to need some messaging headlines localized in your language.

The slogans to be localized are:
* "Look Ahead"
* "Empower Yourself"
* "Blaze Your Own Path"

In addition to localizing the phrases, we would like advices from you about any negative connotations, language nuances, or cultural sensitivities any of these phrases have in their respective languages.

These localized messages will be used to create graphic assets for you locale. 
If you have any doubt, don't hesitate and ask in the bug :-)

My translations:

* "Look Ahead" - Gândește-te la viitor
* "Empower Yourself" - Oferă-te
* "Blaze Your Own Path" - Strălucește pe propriul drum

Would be useful to know the context of these texts for a better translation.
These slogans will be used for graphic assets concerning Firefox OS communication (posters, banners, etc.).

That's correct, they'll be used as part of our marketing and advertising launch efforts.

First of all sorry for the confusion but there's a mistake in one of the slogans to localize (please ignore "Empower Yourself").

These are the slogans that we'll be using, with the target audience.
* "Look Ahead" (consumer audience)
* "Be the Future" (developer audience)
* "Blaze Your Own Path" (industry audience)

There’s a sense of optimism that comes with a changing world as new opportunities and ways to communicate arise. When people feel it, they want to be part of it, not only to better their lives, but also to participate in a better world. That’s what Firefox OS promises and provides. It’s not just a smartphone. It’s a symbol of the journey they’re on and a companion on the road towards the future they now see.

The idea of Look Ahead is meant to convey a sense of progress, innovation, growth. For many people, this will be their first smart phone and we want it to feel like an exciting milestone...a moment that represents personal progress and opportunity...a device that will impact their lives in a positive way and point toward continued growth in the future.

Blaze Your Own Path tells operators and manufacturers that they can have more control and say than they do with other operating systems, like Android or iOS. As we say on our partner site, "to manage, customize and improve relationships with their customers."

Be the Future is about being on the cutting of a new way forward in apps and operating systems, about defining how this new landscape will look and paving the way for the next generation.

After collaborative messenger discussion with Cristian, I agreed with your translation from comment 7.

Stefania, Ioana, can you also give your feedback on the translations proposed by Christian and Raul ? I'd like as much brainstorming as possible on these slogans before we start using them in material that we can't update (videos, brochures...). Thanks
I agree with the first translation "Privește spre viitor" (i.e, "Look towards the future").

For the second one, I find the translation "Fă parte din viitor" (i.e, "Be part of the future") weaker in meaning than the original one. I would suggest to either go for the mot-à-mot version "Fii viitorul" or, maybe better, for "Creează viitorul" (i.e, "Make the Future").

For the last headline, I would suggest "Luminează-ți propria cale" or "Luminează-ți propriul drum" (i.e, "Light up your own path/road"), because it retains the idea of light, fire & forging that comes across in the original message.

I second Stefania in this.  I would +1 to "Fii viitorul"

"Croiește-ți " doesn't reflect at all the Firefox OS spirit unfortunatelly. I'm also 75% ok with "Luminează-ți propria cale" that Stefania proposed.I still feel we are missing the balzing spirit.

Yes, in retrospect, "Fii viitorul" is more incisive and original. 

Apart from "Luminează-ți propria cale", I also came up with "Făurește-ți propriul drum" (i.e Forge your own road). Not sure the word choice is not too eccentric/old-fashioned, though.
I've asked around in the office between the mentioned versions for 3rd line. 10 out 10 said "Croiește-ți propriul drum". 
This one is really hard to localize it seems :D
Ioana Chiorean, it's not hard to localize. But in Romanian we have an expression for this and I think "Croiește-ți propriul drum" it's the best. As you said, we localize, so we need to adapt the text into Romanian language.

And I agree with "Fii viitorul". I also wanted this localization, but after talking with Raul, we agreed to use "Fă parte din viitor". But now I agree with Ștefania, it's more incisive, better and more close to the original meaning.

So the texts are:

Since these are marketing headlines, it's important that they convey the original meaning, but also that they do so in a way that feels catchy and engaging. Pardon my ignorance here, but how do we decide which versions are chosen for final use? Are the suggestions in comment #19 final?

To help us understand the lines a little better, could someone provide a brief explanation of each one that talks about any cultural implications or wordplay that may be involved? We'd love to know how these will sound to a native speaker, what the tone is, whether they're formal or colloquial, etc. Any insights you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
