PreReq: Device language set to Hrvatski

Repro Steps:
1) Updated Leo to Build ID: 20130715070218
2) Open the "Postavke" (Settings) from the home screen
3) Select "Jexik" (Language)
4) View what is listed

Actual:
"Ponedjeljak 15. Srpan..." (Monday, July 15, 2013) is truncated/ellipses in language menu

Expected:
The text is not truncated/Ellipses

Not sure how this is fixable without interface resizing, since it's a format example.

Shortening the strings defeats the purpose of that specific date format, so I think this can only be fixed either by removing (or changing) the specific format option or extending the example text field so that the format fits.

Be warned, this is not even the longest possible date string in that format, for example (Ponedjeljak 27. Listopad )

Talked with localizer. As per the truncation bug blocker guidelines, this should be considered as a blocker because the cropped label will not be understood. Also, we can't make month names shorter as it'll mess other parts of the UI where the same strings are being used.
No workaround was found for this case

Proposed solution:

Make the text auto-scroll slowly to reveal the whole text?


This can also be used for pretty much any too long title strings and other parts of the UI (a lot of bugs relating to this).
It eventually reveals the whole string if the complete information is needed for the user (and it usually isn't, eg. when the user knowingly enters a menu he can retain that information to know where he is) and doesn't use more then the assigned line of space on the screen.

yeah, a systematic solution to this class of bugs is probably a good idea.  probably too much risk for the upcoming  1.1 release but needed in the long term.

Niko, can you spin off another bug to track your idea? It probably needs both UX and engineering study and feedback.

This screen has changed considerably from 1.1, now there's no truncation problem. Feel free to reopen if that's not the case.
