Thoughts, bugs and opinions about this week's Webmaker Feature Lineup, now live at Webmaker.org. Did I get an author wrong? Hate a thumbnail? Liking this week's theme or want to suggest next week's? Have at it :) Lineup theme: Faces, Cubes & Tubes Lineup details (Hed,Dek,URL,Author,Thumb etc): http://bit.ly/1axy1Ms Lineup post: In prog for mozillawebmaker.tumblr.com Note: In future weeks, this will go out on Fridays, accompanied by an editorial staging screenshot, so we have more time to discuss before frontpg is switched over.
Summary: Feature Lineup July 22-26th: "Faces, Cubes & Tubes" → Webmaker's Hottest Issue 0: "Faces, Cubes & Tubes"
* Kat, this is awesome * One suggestion: it would be interesting to curate these cluters of makes on the front page based on *mood.* how do we want people to *feel* when they look at the thumbnails? Espeically the *top row* of makes. * for example: right now the top row is mostly about Indian patriotism and pride. BUT, the image on the right (of the weird-looking zombie guy) clashes with that. It leaves me a bit unsure how to feel as a viewer. * Attached a couple grabs as an experiment. See what you think. Maybe making the top row tell more of a single story would a) make Webmaker.org less overwhelming in general, but also b) telegraph a little more about what the current theme is
Hey Matt, could you put these comments in this bug here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=906495 (The bug we're currently talking in is from a while ago and I should have set it as resolved, my bad!) Good point re: consistent messaging perhaps being easier to understand re: the top 4 slides especially. My methodology in keeping it mixed rather than adhering to just one theme in that row (ie, adding in the dino and the zombie) was to keep Webmaker looking like an eclectic, grab-bag sort of place. But you're right - in certain instances (like India's Independence Day) this could be seen as less than clear. Happy to switch these around, as I agree with what you're saying here and it never hurts to continue experimenting. Will do now.
