(Whiteboard: "user testing" )

This task is to create a video of best practices to teach/share best practices on user testing with individuals like #makerparty even organizers or volunteers.

The steps are:
-create a video (lo-fi)
-make it audio + add screencasts in popcorn
No longer blocks: 896492
Cool, down to help with this Karen and Cassie - just let me know next steps. I can do the Popcorn video unless someone else would rather :)
I made a skeleton outline for the video here https://etherpad.mozilla.org/UsabilityInfo Input/feedback welcome.
I can get started on the Popcorn remix today/tomorrow. Kat, let me know if you want me to go ahead and if you have any input for the outline https://etherpad.mozilla.org/UsabilityInfo

I assumed moving ahead would be helpful. I have a very rough cut of the Popcorn remix here: https://karenlouisesmith.makes.org/popcorn/19nu

I'm not going to clean it up or add the audio track until you guys have a chance to take a look and weigh in on it.

Karen, this is looking great. =) Thanks so much for moving this forward!

I do have a few pieces of feedback:

* We should think about a thumbnail
* Are you using Open Sans? Can we?
* Have you seen the style guide? Not that I think we should or need to totally conform to that, but it might be helpful: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Webmaker/styleguide
* You can use icons from font-awesome, if you need (e.g. for the bug). Install the font, then copy icons from http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/cheatsheet/
* Might include photos of more people. Anything to give a sense of what "real user testing" can look like. You can grab images from any of these links: http://etherpad.mozilla.org/mofo-photos
* people might not know who Donald Norman is. Consider a brief description of what he did.
* The paragraph of text about "usability testing" is way too long - I'll likely be listening to your voice anyway, not reading. But I like that you pulled in another resource where users could learn more. Could we link in some of the resources I had listed in https://etherpad.mozilla.org/usertestingguidelines ?
* Could slow down some slides, esp. the pointers
* love the bugs and bouquets
* love the 'thank them the mozilla way'. After the fox you could switch to the real picture of jbuck with the list of bugs (we'll be using that on the /feedback design too: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzfN9sXlOXt1Zk5INVl0VC1FRU0/edit?usp=sharing )
* Maybe instead of "see you next time" we can end with a more relevant call to action: what is the first thing they should do next?
* I like the length. But seems like the movie play time elapsed is showing wrong (it ends much sooner than the timeline shows... bug? or is that in the movie)

Would love to see or hear the entire script as well. I think the more concrete pieces of advice you can give here, the better, as people who watch this may not just need an intro to user testing, but real advice on how to conduct their own testing sessions.

Looking forward to seeing the next iteration!

Also, just a note about flagging info – best if you flag someone directly, flagging "anyone" is more than likely to get ignored. :)

Agreed with Cassie - this is looking great, Karen. I'm also +1 to the point that this video would be best-served if it is a bit more hands-on applicable to the direct type of user testing you'll be expecting folks to do in their sessions. Many of these folks will never have done user testing before, or they will have done it in different contexts (ie, ad agencies, etc) so it'd be really useful if we focus on your specific methodology and a step-by-step instruction layer for how to get started, what to test, etc rather than general thoughts about the value of user testing.

Just my 2c though, I know you've both been thinking this through a lot more. Not sure where you'd like me to jump in here, but I'm assuming I can be most useful from an end user/partner perspective so let me know if you'd like help drafting the text with that in mind?

Awesome :)
