User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:22.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/22.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20130618035212 Steps to reproduce: This bug is about Mozilla.org's translation in French, not the l10n of a product. I unsubscribed to the newsletter, and I've been redirected to this page: https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/unsubscribe_confirm/CAREQQoRFXQIUkJBWBBAFgZbHlxRQw Since my OS language is French, the page displayed is translated in French. Actual results: The translation is really poor: - page title is "Mozilla: Donate | Abanonnement confirmer" - "Confirmation d'abandonnement" - "Le courriel a été enlever des -mailings- dans le futur" Expected results: A correct translation can be : - "Mozilla: Donate |Désabonnement confirmé" - "Confirmation de désabonnement" - "Votre adresse e-mail a été enlevée de notre mailing list, vous ne receverez plus de messages de notre par dans le futur."
Hi Martin Wow. That is such a bad translation, thanks for the report! But to be honest, I don't even know where those strings comes from (a grep -r "Abanonnement" on our l10n repository returns nothing. Neither on the mozilla.org codebase) Will need Pascal's input on this one. Pascal, is it something that comes from Mailman or a third-party software? If this is not localizable on our side, I'd prefer to fallback to en-US ;)

Ouch this is most annoying. I belong to the French team in charge of translating the newsletter, but we (obviously) never were presented these "unsuscribe" strings for translation. In case she can do anything to cope with that, I pass the word to Jessilyn Davis right now.
I'm afraid that's a third party tool, can't find anything in the repositories I'm aware of.
I also can't find anything in our repositories, Martin, what is the newsletter you unsubscribed to? That data would help as we could ask the person in charge of the newsletter for more information about the software he is using and the machine hosting that. Thanks

Thanks I found this link on the newsletter from the mozilla.org home page https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/unsubscribe/
And sometimes this page is in English, sometimes poorly translated in French…
Pascal, that was the newsletter I subscribed to when I made a donation, I think. I also think you can just fallback to English, since the other parts of the page (header/footer) are still in English.
Thanks Matin, so that's actually not managed by the l10n team, I think it uses indeed an external application that we 'wrap' in a mozilla.org domain. Donation is Mozilla Foundation stuff, let's ask David Boswell for more information as this falls in his bucket of projects.

Thanks for flagging this! This is actually a different email program run by the Foundation, not "Firefox & Vous" that Jean-Bernard and I work on together. I'm cc'ing Geoff and Andrea who might know more about how to fix this.
Hi All, Andrea and I will get this fixed. Thanks! G.
Geoffrey, please have Theo review the text. Thanks
Pascal: Does the translation suggested by Martin work? -------------- A correct translation can be : - "Mozilla: Donate |Désabonnement confirmé" - "Confirmation de désabonnement" - "Votre adresse e-mail a été enlevée de notre mailing list, vous ne receverez plus de messages de notre par dans le futur."
(In reply to Geoffrey MacDougall from comment #12) > Pascal: > > Does the translation suggested by Martin work? > > -------------- > > A correct translation can be : > > - "Mozilla: Donate |Désabonnement confirmé" > - "Confirmation de désabonnement" > - "Votre adresse e-mail a été enlevée de notre mailing list, vous ne > receverez plus de messages de notre par dans le futur." No, in particular the last sentence has typos and uses English words instead of French ones. It's way better than what we have now but it's still not correct. A "better" translation could be: Votre adresse a bien été enlevée de notre liste de diffusion, vous ne recevrez plus de messages de notre part. But again, please work with Théo and the French localization team on the text edits, that's safer and we can ensure we use a similar wording to what we use with the Firefox & You newsletter. Thanks
As a temporary fix, I've gone ahead and updated the language per Pascal's suggested custom text. That can serve as a bandaid until we get final confirmed language from Théo and the French localization team. How do we submit the text for approval / file the localization bug?
(In reply to Geoffrey MacDougall from comment #15) > How do we submit the text for approval / file the localization bug? Hey Geoffrey, Andrea thanks for fixing that :) In the future, you can file a bug here for French: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Mozilla%20Localizations&component=fr%20/%20French For this time, I can give you the final version here, also for the page https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/unsubscribe/ We are currently working on it, stay tuned.
I reviewed the strings with Alizée, here is the final version: Mozilla: Donate | Désinscription confirmée Confirmation de la désinscription Votre adresse a bien été retirée de notre liste de diffusion.
The translations on these pages are now updated. There may be some short lag time before the changes are live. If you have capacity to confirm the changes on the live page and double check my work that would be good. Thanks SO much for the quick help on this, Andrea
Thanks Andrea, this is much, much better! Two little things, though: - On https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/unsubscribe/, "(facultatif)" appears twice: Pourquoi souhaitez-vous vous désinscrire ? (Facultatif) (facultatif): - On https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/unsubscribe_confirm/CAREQQoRFXQIUkJBWBBAFgZbHlxRQw The <h1> title is: <h1>Confirmation de désabonnement</h1> and should be: <h1>Confirmation de la désinscription</h1> Once that's fixed, we can close the bug :) Thanks!
the double "Facultatif" is odd. Here is a screenshot of the working text that I saved: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s202/sh/d0139852-d00e-42f6-a8d5-a5705656a4b4/09d203f95340d856f81f3ca475637a74/deep/0/BSD%20Control%20Panel.png I'm wondering if there is 1) lag time; 2) something odd in the page code that is causing the doubling up? I re-pasted the text and re-saved in hopes that might fix this. Please check it in a few moments. the second tweak: "Confirmation de la désinscription" is now in place.

The second Facultatif is another string, because in the code of the page it is actually: <strong>(facultatif)</strong> So, it doesn't matter, just remove the first one, it will be fine. You should save: "Pourquoi souhaitez-vous vous désinscrire ?" > > the second tweak: "Confirmation de la désinscription" is now in place. Not propagated for now, will check later.
Confirmed: Removed the first facultatif. Copy saved as: "Pourquoi souhaitez-vous vous désinscrire ?" Awaiting confirmation from you that "Confirmation de la désinscription" propagates. I am on the edge of my seat... this will be my first resolved bug as a Mozillian. :)
Oh, I know what happened, you changed the title of the page itself (the one displayed in the tab): Mozilla: Donate | Confirmation de la désinscription To sum up: - In the field where you currently have "Confirmation de la désinscription", you should save "Désinscription confirmée" instead. - You should have another field somewhere with "Confirmation de désabonnement". In this one, you should put "Confirmation de la désinscription". Congrats for your first bug!
I believe I have corrected these fields. Théo can you double check my work?
Flags: needinfo?(dboswell)
Sorry, have been busy. Hum, it seems we can only use one title for both pages, so "Mozilla: Donate | Confirmation de la désinscription" will suit both. Could you (I swear, this is the last change) replace "Désinscription confirmée" with "Confirmation de la désinscription" please? So that we are ok on all pages. Thanks again Andrea!
No problem Théo! I believe I replaced the header with the text you recommended. Can you confirm (hopefully one last time?) Thanks! :) - Andrea
