User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.8; rv:22.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/22.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130618035212
Steps to reproduce:
Quit Firefox, rebooted into Windows (Windows 7 partition on Mac), rebooted back into OSX partition, restarted Firefox.
Actual results:
Bookmark menu was truncated, tried to restore from backups. Only the most recent backup file in bookmarksbackup worked (even if Firefox was restarted after each attempt). The last and only working backup was also truncated - 215 KB vs 542 KB used by the other older backups.
Solved this by restoring from a 2 month old exported bookmark.html file. This resulted in a minor loss of some recent bookmarks.
Expected results:
No bookmarks should have gone missing.
Backups in bookmarksbackup should not have failed.
Are you able to reproduce the issue each time?
Flags: needinfo?(hokan.stenholm)
No This doesn't appear to be reproducible, neither by a normal Firefox quit and start or by the procedure mentioned above.
After this bug report I also encountered failure to save individual links as bookmarks, save all links in a window as a folder of bookmarks and had random cases of Firefox not marking web page links as visited.
I am now inclined to believe that the reported error may have been due to some kind of data corruption in "~/Library/Application Support/Firefox" that propagated and created these multiple errors.
I've kept a copy of the buggy "~/Library/Application Support/Firefox" folder and created a new one by removing the old one and recreating it manually by importing backups (bookmarks.html), re-adding extensions and re-applying a couple of about:config settings I use.
This appears to pretty much fall in the random unreproducible error category so should I flag this as resolved or is there a better choice ?

Yes, probably a corrupt profile implying a bad behavior, it's a common issue. As you're not able to reproduce it (as bug triagers too), I close it. Reopen if the issue is back and you find strong STR.
