Noticed this in two different places today. Ad on the Google homepage for the Nexus 7 and the Yahoo! 30 day logo update page. Both images looked very pixelated and in the case of the Google ad hard to read.
After some investigation it turns out they are both using scaled down images. We render these pixelated and in the case of text looks pretty bad. Tested on Safari, Chrome and IE and it looks much better. Also tested in Firefox with image.high_quality_downscaling.enabled true and it fixed it.
While I don't consider using downscaled images a good practice (especially using images to render text…) it would still be nice if we were not the only browser to render them poorly.
