Details

Currently, we only support the small little icon tiles. We need to support OpenSearch engines with 50 x 50 (or higher for HiDPI) for search providers and implement the new tile format.

We currently don't have discovery for open search, so we don't need this or bug 900137 until we get that. jwilde tells me on irc we can special case our built in provider tiles, which are covered by bug 895520.
