We noticed over the past few days that the random ordering for the Flicks video page (https://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org/en-US/video/) wasn't updating every hour. I've since timed it and it seems to be updating once every 3 hours. cturra: Can you confirm the cronjob on Flicks production is set to run once an hour? If so, I suspect a caching issue is the culprit here. gregoryjost: To help prioritize this, is it acceptable that the order is only updating once every three hours instead of every hour?

I think the faster it updates the better, but I don't think it is critical. I would suspect users feeling suspicious about it would try several times in a row, get the same ordering and draw their conclusions. 1 or 3 hours wouldn't change much. So I'll for shortening the randomizing loop but don't think this is urgent. Having that some time by mid-next week would be nice though.

If so, I suspect a caching issue is the culprit here. that is correct, the cron runs every hour on the 59th minute. 59 * * * * root /usr/bin/flock -w 10 /var/lock/firefoxflicks-video /data/genericrhel6/src/firefoxflicks.mozilla.org/firefox-flicks/manage.py cron update_random_video_ordering > /dev/null 2>&1
Random ordering doesn't matter now that the contest has been over for years now.
