Attachment: list of files in my Firefox 23 after clean install and with the issue present

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 (Beta/Release)

Steps to reproduce:

1. Changed History preferences under Preferences > Privacy to custom to reveal the thick marks
2. Restarted Firefox couple of times and took a look at the preferences state

Happened on:
Firefox 22
Firefox 23

Actual results:

Usually the preferences revert to the 'Firefox will remember history' default. Only sometimes I get to observe the Preferences getting really preserved.


Expected results:

The Preferences > Privacy > History should be remembered

You need to change some settings in "Privacy to custom" if you want to keep this choice visible. If you don't change anything, Firefox reverts automatically to the default choice "Firefox will remember history".

Indeed, if some preferences are changed within the 'Use custom...' preferences are saved.

But, there are two additional issues with the menu section which tell us the bug should not be dismissed just yet:

1. User cannot be expected to know that the set of the custom options works the same as the main 'Remember history'.

2. AFAIK the default policy in Firefox 23+ is to allow third party cookies only from the site you visit whereas after I select the 'use custom settings for history', 'Accept third party cookies : Always' is selected.


Additionally at least one preference in the cluster ('Keep until I close Firefox') does not work and various issues with the preferences in the cluster have been reported for as long as Firefox 4 was around.

It's intended by Design => WONTFIX

It's Nightly only as of now => INVALID
