I often want to know if a file was downloaded over http or httpS. (Why? See http://www.elvey.com/insecure !) I can tell if a file was downloaded over HTTP or HTTPS by looking at the file in the Mac Finder's Get Info feature. The "Where from" field of downloads, if downloaded with Safari, show the URL source. So, for example, I just downloaded Flash from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_11_for_Mac_OS_X_10.6_-_10.9&os=OSX&browser_type=Gecko&browser_dist=Firefox&d=Adobe_Photoshop_Lightroom_for_Macintosh&dualoffer=false The resultant file has an empty More Info section if I open Get Info on it in the Mac Finder. If I'm using Firefox (or Chrome), I often resort to using wget or Safari if I want this info. I'd rather not have to.
Oh, there's a workaround: In the Downloads Panel, i can right-click and choose "Copy Download Link", and look at the URL just copied into the clipboard to see if it was downloaded over HTTP or HTTPS. In this case, it was downloaded insecurely - from http://aihdownload.adobe.com/bin/live/AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_11_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg

Hi Matthew, Is this bug to deny HTTP downloads from HTTPS pages?
Tanvi, sorry I missed your question. Belated reply: No, but if Firefox did that, it would make this bug less urgent. Similarly now that OSes enforce code signing (e.g. OS X's Gatekeeper feature), this bug is less urgent. (Replying using another account as I'm locked out of my account due to Bug # 1356042.)

Fixed.
