After talking with Josh Carpenter we want to remove the fade in animation on the back button to improve responsiveness.

Hi Josh,

Here's some changes. Goal was mainly to remove all 'in'-animations to have immediate feedback. Best is to just try it on phone, and have it side by side with a non-patched phone, f.e. SMS app feels more responsive (even though it's not of course).

Thanks Jan. It's a bit hard to see the result from the video, so we'll flash a device tomorrow (UX team is gathering in SF for a work week) and follow up.

Hey Jan,
So I checked out the patch and it's looking really good to me.  It certainly helps with the perceived response and I feel that the change is a improvement from what we have.   

My only reservations with this patch are that the blue "active" state sticks out a little too much now.    This will be something that visual design would need to address.

Jan, I have not only lowered transition time as you were suggesting, but removed the transition, as no other button is animated. Thanks for pointing that out!
