JavaScript Alert dialogs are not being displayed [Bug# 4279]
[Bug #7332] Sort by Date: currently sorts alphabetically, it should have been sorted by the actual date.
[Bug #7028] "Sort" on Sender column is currently sorted by the From field. It should be sorted by the text field.
[Bug #8529] New mail messages are not placed correctly in the sort-ordered messages
[Bug 8985] The keyboard Delete key does not delete a mail message like NOVA does yet.
bug 9210 - What's related is not functional from the Sidebar
bug 8511 - 'Pages requiring pop-up user authentication will hang browser'
bug 9296 - This should go under installation instructions. "Installing directly on top of previous milestone builds may cause problems. You should install in a clean directory or delete previous builds before installing."
Regarding Fenella's comments for bug 8985, pls change to read: "Currently, the Delete key does not delete any messages. You must use the menu item or the toolbar button to delete a message."
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
From: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8973 "If you mark a message read/unread by using the menu items or by simply reading a message, the 'read status' in the thread pane may not reflect the change. You may need to resize the window to see the updated status change." Pls add this to the list of known problems for Mail for all platforms.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6744: "When creating your default profile, do not use spaces in the profile name. The actual folder will be named with %20 for each space. As a result, if you use Messenger, your mail folders will fail to load/display." Pls add this to the list of known problems section for both Profile and Mail for Mac platform only.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8244: "You may notice alerts and 'beeps' when selecting mail folders and messages. We are currently working on this problem." Pls add this to the list of known problems for Mail for Mac and Linux platforms.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9375: "In a Messenger session, if you select an Address Book Card from the Address Book window more than once (ie. card A, card B, and then card A again), the program will crash. This will be addressed in the next release." Pls add this to the list of known issues section for all platforms.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8252: "You may not see a scroll bar when the address card view is displayed in the Address Book window and the contents do not all fit on one pane." Please add this to the known problems section for all platforms.
Just for tracking purposes, these are the items that you can remove from the current release notes since these problems have all been fixed. This is from mscott: Quoting is not completely functional in M8. When you reply to a message, the original text is inserted, but the blockquote element (HTML compose) is not inserted to distinguish the quoted text. (bug 7789) If you have a problem continuing to type text after you select one of the text attributes (such as bold or italic), try selecting and deselecting some text in the HTML compose window to get your cursor focus back. (bug 6444) IMAP protocol: After you delete a message, getting new messages may not function. You must exit and restart Apprunner/Messenger. (bug 8332) When you move a message, headers aren't copied into the destination folder. The message is copied, but you won't be able to see the results until the next time you start Messenger/Apprunner. (bug 6975)
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9390: "Pasting text to the mail compose window may result in crash." Pls add this to the list of known problems for Messenger for Linux platform only.
Just for tracking purposes, these are the items that you can remove from the current release notes since these problems have all been fixed. This is from hangas: Reads: Display Address books and LDAP directories Address books and directories are displayed in the left pane according to preferences. No real data in right panes yet. Should be (something like): Address Book - The Personal Address Book is displayed in the left pane. LDAP and additional address books are not working yet. (The right panes do contain real data). Reads: You can bring up the Address Book and see the UI. To see the address books and directories on the Address Book window left pane, copy the "ldap_2.*" prefs from 4.5 (or later) prefs.js into prefs50.js. However, the card data in the UI is hard coded at this time and you can't make address book entry changes or deletions. Should be (something like): You can use the Address Book window and the Select Address dialog. The Personal Address Book is working for adding cards, editing cards, and deleting cards. LDAP and additional address books are not working yet. The data is stored in a file called "abook.mab". It is not yet possible to use the address book data from the mail compose window.
(oops, in my previous comment, I don't mean that you should remove those items. You should change to the new wording as specified.) Just for tracking purposes, these are the items that you can remove from the current release notes since these problems have all been fixed (only one item below is a modification). This is from putterman: Here are some more items which have been fixed: POP protocol: Deleting multiple messages is currently not functional. You are able to delete one message at a time. (bug 8203) Due to optimizing performance in displaying headers (bug 7002), unread messages don't show up as bold in the thread pane until you move your mouse over them. This does not affect the message's state if you select an unread message to read it. This is a temporary problem and will be addressed in the next release. (bug 7012) Sorting affects your ability to perform operations on messages. If you sort your messages first, operations on messages may not work, including deleting, copying, marking messages read, and other operations involving the affected code area. (bug 6670) This should be changed since we don't always reparse at startup and we have improved performance: If you have local folders with many saved messages (hundreds or thousands), don't point the Mail application at your actual local folder hierarchy. All folders reparse at startup, and vast quantities of memory could be consumed if your total number of messages is high. This should probably be: If you have local folders that you use with more than 1000 messages, don't point the Mail application at your actual local folder hierarchy. Larger folders may take too long to load and may consume vast amounts of memory.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9081: "If you have multiple accounts (five or more accounts), the application may crash if you bring up a new compose window in Messenger. As a workaround, you will need to make sure you are set up for no more than four accounts." Pls add this to the list of known problems for all platforms.
Regarding comment by lchiang on 7/07/99 @ 19:35 the bug 9375 no longer happens. Not sure how it got fixed it but it's fixed. So this doesn't need to be in release notes.
bug 8503 "On Macintosh, apprunner will not launch if you have a forward slash '/' in the Folder name."
Pls disregard my comment dated 7/7/99 at 20:37 and do not include this into the release notes. Bug http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9081 was fixed last minute. Thanks.
Target Milestone: M8
Summary: M8 Release Notes → M8 Release Note Scratch Pad
There's not necessarily a bug number associated with this issue but it is treated in bug 9505 Please add: All Platforms If you find that the Bookmarks menu has only two menuitems (Add Current Page and Manage Bookmarks...) and they are not followed by a list of bookmarks then you need to do one of two things: 1. Create a new profile or 2. Migrate an old 4.x profile over to Seamonkey. To accomplish task one(1) you will need to remove your current profiles and mozregistry. For Windows, remove the 'mozregistry.dat' file in your windows (or winnt) directory. Also remove the entire 'Users50' directory. For MacOS, remove the file 'Mozilla Registry' from your Preferences folder (system folder|preferences|Mozilla Registry). Then remove the 'Users50' folder from the folder called Documents that was installed on your hard drive when Seamonkey was installed (documents|mozilla|Users50). For Linux, simply remove the .mozilla/ directory. Launch Seamonkey and create your new profile. The menus should now appear and behave normally. *Note if you Bookmarks menu is incorrect as mentioned above, bookmarking will not work correctly until you follow these steps.
In Files Created or Used on Win32, there is only one file that should be listed under the \temp\ directory... tokenlog.html. The file localstore.rdf is not created in \temp\, instead it is created in \bin\. This is under winnt, build id:1999070808
Please change the following: - Bug #5752 has been Fixed/Verified. If you use the same host name for two POP accounts, they will both be displayed in the folder pane in the form of username/hostname. - To use the plain text compose window, add this line to your preference file: user_pref("mail.identity.id1.compose_html", false); Note: It used to state send_html but is now changed to compose_html.
From: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9791 "Send Later feature. After choosing to send a message later from the compose window and you exit apprunner, you may notice that the apprunner application console does not close. You need to close this console manually." Pls add this to the list of known problems section for all platforms.
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9776 "The Send Later feature is working inconsistently. Pls see bug http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9776 for a detailing of various scenarios where this feature fails to work." Pls add this to the known problems section for all platforms.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9537: "Mail compose window: the drop down list boxes in the addressing fields are not accessible until you collapse then expand the addressing panel. For example, you have to collapse and then expand the addressing panel in order to be able to choose from:, cc: or newsgroup: choices from the drop down lists. Also note that your data you entered prior to collapsing the panel will be lost so enter your recipients after collapsing the panel." Pls add this to the known problems section for Windows only.
From: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9535 "You may see your message count numbers show up in the thread pane of the Messenger window after you delete a message. There does not appear to be any bad side effects of this bug." Pls add this to the known problems section for all platforms.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9470: "Return character in plain text mail compose doesn't appear in the message after it's been sent. This has been fixed for the next release." Please add this to the known problems section for all platforms.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9119: "The application may crash when doing a multiple selection in a Messenger window. For example, if you select a message and then scroll down the thread pane list to select a range of messages, the application may crash."
Release notes describe bug 3437 which has been marked fixed.
Reference to CSS property "bgcolor" which does not exist. 'background-color' works fine
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9508: "When composing and sending a message to both an email address and a newsgroup, the message does not get sent properly to the email address. The workaround is to address newsgroup and email messages separately." Pls add this to the list of known problems for all platforms.
For my comments 7/14/99 16:32 on bug 9537, pls also add another workaround to the problem. "You can set your focus to the drop down list and use your down arrow key to scroll the list of choices such as cc:, newsgroup:, etc."
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9896: "The last newsgroup that you are subscribed to does not appear in the folder pane of the Messenger window below the news server. This will be addressed in a future milestone." Pls add this to the list of known problems section for Mac platform only.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9944: "The File|Close menu item used from Messenger causes Apprunner to hang. As a workaround, use the Close box in the Messenger window or the File | Exit menu item." Pls put this in the known problems section for all platforms.
