We may want to translate the evangelism letters to German. I read in the status reports of June 27, 2001, that Doron Rosenberg had agreed to do this. So assigning to him

Sorry, but it took me a bit longer to get around to doing it. I have a first rough translation ready. Unfortunately it sits on my laptop which isn't connected to the internet at school, so I'll only attach it tonight from at home. There are a couple of things that I don't know the proper german expression for: is there a canonical translation for API? Or DOM? So far I have left these terms untranslated. It was really pretty quick, it just took some time to spare some cycles. If Doron doesn't object, I'll do another letter soonish.

The problem I have is that I am "on vacation" so I have little time, sadley enough. I'll take a look at your translation, as you seem to have much more experience than I do in translating.

so what else has to be done here ?
Comment 13•22 years ago

The webmaster letter isn't translated yet, and the other letters need some adjustments - typos, grammar, etc. Some links are dead, too.
Comment 14•22 years ago
This is a version that I had already done some time ago. Sorry for the delay. Michael Schumacher, could you do the proof reading, as you suggested that you had found some mistakes in the previous letters?
Comment 16•22 years ago
Yes, I'll do the proof reading. TLS letter is done. I've split some of the sentences, adjusted the link to the devedge article and added some explanatory text.
Comment 17•22 years ago
Didn't change much; only a few typos, one sentence. Added a pointer to http://www.mozilla.org/projects/plugins/ because I think that this is the place where plugin developers should look for documentation.

links adjusted. But I couldn't find a replacement for http://sites.netscape.net/ekrockhome/standards.html (broken, can't resolve hostname)

I can add this to the site and link to it from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/tech-evangelism/site/component-german.html Is there any german language translation of the german component page that we should do as well?
Comment 39•21 years ago
What do you mean? Translating http://www.mozilla.org/projects/tech-evangelism/site/component-german.html into german? Please explain, thanks.
Comment 40•21 years ago
When we switched to language based components, it was my hope that each language community of evangelists would use their "component home page" to communicate directly in their native language to both other potential technology evangelists and to end users. What I was suggesting was if the german language tech evangelism community would like to customize the page in german, then we could replace the current page.
Comment 41•21 years ago
I would like to create a german "component homepage" but I'm not sure what content should be published. Should I translate http://www.mozilla.org/projects/tech-evangelism (and all sub-pages) into german or do you have anything else in mind?
Comment 42•21 years ago
Initially I was thinking of a limited homepage incorporating some of the information in the sections on what tech evangelism is, how to file bugs etc. What should be included initially would depend (I think) on what you feel would be useful for your community. You raise a good point about translating the other pages however. With the switch to Apache and newer/faster hosts we may be able to support multiple language versions of our content. This is something that we should discuss with Mozilla Foundation in more detail to see what their plans for international content are. In Summary: let's focus on the german component home page for now and I will make some initial contacts regarding the Foundation's plans for hosting international versions of the content on www.mozilla.org.

Argh, sorry for the double post. I would like to help translate a few webpages.

component-german.html (german)
When you add a page to www.mozilla.org, please do not include the wrapping
which is produced automatically. I edited the document and removed the wrapping
and will attach the new version.
I also renamed the letter to follow the language code scheme
tech-letter-de.html and changed the link.

Please note that this version does not contain any wrapping. The wrapping which includes the banner, footer etc is provided during the build process for www.mozilla.org. Also note that Tech Evangelism uses server side includes (which are replaced with the final text during the build). When editing existing documents, please use the CVS version or the "Edit this page" link to get the raw source instead of the output from the build process. I also added tech-letter-de.html to the NOWRAP file for this directory so that it would not have any wrapping applied. (Just an FYI for those of you interested in learning how to author for www.mozilla.org). This should be available on www.mozilla.org in an hour or so depending on the new schedule of builds on the new hardware. I will post a comment regarding internationalization issues to npm.documentation and see what happens.
