Before and after patch
With my new tablet with HiDPI I see the same as it was on Firefox.
This Bug is to copy the Firefox changes to Thunderbird.

Blake, I know you have no Windows system with HiDPI at hand. According Mike's statement in a bug he has the same problem.
This is only a copy of the Firefox changes with no new code and I hope you trust the Firefox guys (and a little bit me ;) ) that this solves the issue.
