I was not around for the 1.1 definition of how downloading works. I'm adding & need info-ing Peter (who will be managing this going forward) and also Chris (for historical reasons) to see if they can comment on 1.1 expected implementation.

Images, audio and video are saved to their respective buckets via the Device Storage API. Gecko decides which directory to put files saved into these buckets and that differs between different platforms. I'm not sure of the implementation on Firefox OS, but it would be consistent for all apps.

As far as I know we haven't yet defined where non-image/audio/video files should be saved on disk by the download manager.
