Attached image screenshot shows the issue (obsolete) —
Thunderbird 24 Beta 2 does not respect the reply-to header. Thunderbird 17 works as expected.

STR:

1. Get a mail with reply-to header
2. press the reply button.

expected:

there should be the mail address from the reply-to header in the "to"-field of the composition window.

actual result:

there is the recipients mail address in the "to"-field.

Last good build: 2012-11-19
first bad build: 2012-11-23

the builds between 2012-11-20 and 2012-11-23 are unusable for me. pushlog:

I am unable to reproduce on current trunk or current tb24 beta.
You may have caught a regression in the date range you indicated above.
Please try a current tb24 candidate here:

Archaeopteryx confirmed my observation via IRC a few hours ago.
I can't reproduce with trunk. Didn't try tb24
Keywords: regression
I've the same issue. This is reproducible when the To: header does not contain your exact e-mail address.

Example 1:
 * you have e-mail firstname.lastname@company.example.com
 * receive e-mail with To: yourlogin@company.example.com; Reply-To: whatever@example.com
 * 'Reply' button composes message to yourlogin@company.example.com instead of whatever@example.com

Example 2:
 * same as above but replace yourlogin@company.example.com with your-team@company.example.com

And I too can't repro this on TB 17.0.8.
Tested with 27.0a1 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:27.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/27.0a1 ID: 20131008030203

To test:
- Open a draft
- Set the Reply-To to replyto@example.com (for Gmail : username+replyto@gmail.com)
- Set the To to an address redirecting to your address (for Gmail : username+test@gmail.com)
- Send the email
- Go to Accounts settings
- In your default account, change the address to dummy@example.com
- Once received, open the message you sent yourself
Results:
- The contextual reply button is Reply All
- When clicked, it replies to both the recipient and the Reply-To.
- When selecting Reply with the small arrow or clicking on the normal Reply button, it replies to the Reply-To.
Old results:
- The contextual reply button is Reply
- When clicked or clicking on the normal Reply button, it replies to the Reply-To.

The changes most likely happened with bug 250187.

But is it a bug?
I couldn't get the result shown in the screenshot.

so this and bug 918896 are a regression of bug 250187?
bug 933472 suggests a solution

Does it work with version 18, and fail with version 19?

BUG IS NOT FIXED NOR CLOSED

in ff 52.2.1 the problem is still present
as i added to bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=933555
to be more precise, it is still present, when replying to lists...

sorry for my lack of informations

it seems to work correctly only with simple accounts, i'm attaching a sample email, which makes thunderbird to not work correctly:

After trying again, I've been able to reproduce what the reporter describes:

Example:
-------
Account email: dummy@example.com
From: dummy@example.com
To: TO@example.com
Reply-To: REPLYTO@example.com

Results:

-> Thunderbird 18: the smart reply button is "Reply", the To: of the reply email is set to REPLYTO@example.com
Thunderbird 19 ->: the smart reply button is "Reply", the To: of the reply email is set to TO@example.com
Thunderbird 28 ->: the smart reply button is "Reply", the To: of the reply email is set to TO@example.com and the Reply-To is set to REPLYTO@example.com

I am using 52.6.0 and when I get an email from an email list, Thunderbird uses the "From:" (rather than "Reply-To:") header to populate the "To:" when I hit `Reply` (command-R).

When I hit `Reply to all` it appears to use the "From:" and the "Reply-To:".

Here's some headers from an example message (with "FROM:" address redacted):
