The images fail to load when forming part of a HTML document and when the URL is entered into the location bar. Another example: http://static.userland.com/weblogsCom/images/scripting2weblogscom/Header.jpg This bug is always reproducable. It occurs in Mozilla 0.9.2 and in the most recent Nightly build, 2001071803. I did wonder whether this is related to bug 33576, however I don't remember enabling any preference to block images from other sites, and I can't find the option in the preferences dialog.
WFM 0.9.2 Linux (and anecdotally on more recent trunk builds as well, as I read Scripting News with some regularity and would have noticed this). The preference you're referring to is under Privacy and Security > Images However, even with Image blocking set to "originating server only", I can still see the images if I load them directly.
I checked Privacy and Security > Images, and clicked View Image Permissions. In the image manager, static.userland.com was listed, with status "site cannot load images". When I removed the site from the list it works fine. I guess I must have inadventanlty blocked images from this server via the right click context menu. Perhaps there should be an "are you sure" confirmation dialog? Anyhow, apologies, this is not a bug.
Ok, marking WFM. Feel free to file an rfe on confirmation of image blocking (run a query on it first, though).
