This error may be caused by the date being wrong on your device, but I'm not sure.

What are certificate chains?

The sec_error_expired_certificate error means that the certificate expired 2011-07-08 and today's date is 2013-09-11. Please provide a link to the server. Also, please use https://ssllabs.com ("Test Your SSL Server Now!" at the bottom) to verify that the server is configured correctly.

When an HTTPS server uses a certificate, that certificate is signed by another certificate, which is signed by another cert, etc., until we get to a cert that is in our built-in list of trusted root certificates. This series of certificates signing each other is commonly referred to as a "certificate chain."

per Comment 9 remove Ni

The server being used here is - https://summitbook.mozilla.org/. That happens a test server I stood up with IT for doing testing of an expired SSL website. Getting the SSL error is expected here as such. So this is invalid.
