If, while the user is in the middle of composing a message, Mozilla crashes, said message is completely lost (or at least, I couldn't find any place where a draft gets saved). This has bit me a couple times with majorly-long messages. I realize that I should've remembered to "Save", so that a copy would be in my "Drafts" folder; but the bottom line is I didn't. And Mozilla is unstable enough that it still hangs on me every day or two. Other editors, like Xemacs, Vi, or Word, do auto-checkpointing, and after a crash you can recover a very up-to-date version of what you were working on before the crash (even if you didn't have the foresight to "Save" right before the crash). I judge that there is a worry about security, e.g. having an e-mail saved in a file is potentially a liability because it is a record that someone else might be able to read or otherwise exploit. However, mail messages are saved to files all the time when reading (/tmp/nsmail-*, /tmp/nscopy-*), and that doesn't seem to bother anyone.

Reporter, Please include which build id you are using? Do you want this bug to be a request for an enhancement to auto save the message when being composed or this bug is regarding the crash you are seeing while composing?

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.2) Gecko/20010628 BuildID: 2001062823 This is *not* a report of the crash, but rather a request for auto-save during Compose. However, it *is* a duplicate of 16360. I've already transferred some comments to 16360 and added myself to the 'CC' list. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 16360 ***
