We've been talking about this for awhile as a way to let users know if certain tools or the site itself was experiencing any hiccups, but also if there have been major feature updates or changes. For example, https://status.github.com/ or http://status.twitter.com/.

It was brought up in the crossteam call that this would be quite valuable to teachers, who often have supplemental material that refer to how tools work, which they need to update as we make changes.

It would therefore also be useful to include UX/UI updates that affect usability.
Hey there! I was thinking about trying to do this bug for a class. Can someone assign it to me and maybe give me some helpful hits or guidance as well? I've already looked at those example pages to get ideas but pointing me towards the right resources / repos on git would be very helpful.
Unfortunately I think this isn't a great first bug, as we're currently looking for a replacement for our designer who is on maternity leave.

Humph, can you think of another bug that Matthew could take?

Thanks for letting me know! I've already been talking to a couple people about different things I could work on so I'm sure I'll figure it out. If I'm still stumped by Monday I'll be asking around on IRC which I'm sure can lead me to a good first bug.
Yeah, this is probably a good project later in the term; but not ideal for the first 0.1 release my students have to do.

So, if this is more of a blog along the lines of https://github.com/blog/ then I think we should actually just post these updates on the existing https://blog.webmaker.org .

@Matt, thoughts? It'd certainly be the easiest solution to providing updates on new features to webmaker.org

@ jbuck: I agree. We *should* be telling stories about new features on the Webmaker blog -- and generally already are.
* I can work with the product team to build process and systems for this
* I think we can mark this resolved for now
