Hungarian language uses different order for names. We use [Last name] [First name] order. Currently the contact list only displays names in [First name] [Last name] order which is weird for Hungarian eyes. AFAIK Japanese also uses this order. Please provide an option in the setup menu to replace display order of names. Currently we can change only order by settings for contact list.
Hi Kami, I agree. A contact list is displayed in order of [last name][first name] in Japan. I think that the option to switch the order of displaying the name is necessary. Thanks, Teiichiro Fukuda
Created attachment 814305 [details] setting_display_lastname.png I've come up with the image of the "Display by last name".
Hi Ayman, I made the image that added "Display Option" to the setup menu. Is it no problem in this way?
Thanks Telichiro ni? to me to review
Created attachment 818811 [details] display_by_lastname_image.pdf Hi Ayman, I created the option of "Display by last name", and the image of "Contacts list" and "Contacts details". Please do a review of the user interface. Thanks.

There was an alternative proposal on this: instead of letting the user toggle, always display the last name first when the last name is in CJK characters. Arguably that would be a bit confusing than allowing the user to explicitly toggle the order, but that won't solve the case where in my address book people come with both Chinese name or/and English name -- unless I could overwrite the default for a specific entry with maybe the "Display name" field.
Thank you for the alternative proposal. However, with this proposal, it seems that it cannot respond to Hungarian language.

Need UX input on this feature request. I personally like to see this i18n feature being implemented.

Tim, is it comment #9 you'd like feedback on? There are few ideas in this thread and I'm not sure which one is up for UX feedback. Thanks!
I make the patch("Contacts list" and "Contacts details") that corrects the order of the display of the name.
Ayman still needs to be flagged to advise on either/both of the recommended designs (or perhaps another solution entirely). Please do not unflag Ayman; he is UX for Contacts. Thanks!

Yes i am going to deliver a design by the end of this week as none of the proposals are quite right (for example the 'order by last name' and 'display by last name' CTAs in the settings interface in comment 5 are conflicting and therefore confusing)... However right now there are higher priority bugs that I need to deliver on. Leaving Ni? for me until i deliver wireframes.
If the OEM can customize this option at build time (in settings) for the country who needs the default option to be different to current option then this bug should be closed. We should not introduce too many things into FTE as this will most likely be annoying to all users who just want to use the device and not spend time setting up every setting in the FTE.

I think this could be locale parameter not an user setting. Or is it possible to flag a contact name as reverse order? I think this is not resolved. We need global solution here.

Can you put this feature to the product backlog?
Removing flag on old bug. Flagging Wilfred to address comment #17 as to whether or not this made it into a backlog or a release.
