Matt said in bug 915921 and bug 916121 comment 4 that the new outlook.com IMAP servers also work for @hotmail.com accounts.

We need to know:
1) Which server hostnames to use
2) Whether that really work, and whether that's for all hotmail.* and live.* country domains.

If we could configure IMAP for all hotmail users, that would be a great boon. Currently, they all have POP3 only, and that's a pain when used concurrently with webmail, which many hotmail users do.
Matt, 1) is for you: Which IMAP and SMTP hostnames did you use when you tested your @hotmail.com account?
imap-mail.outlook.com:993	SSL/TLS	Normal password	smtp-mail.outlook.com:587	STARTTLS	Normal password	true

are the setting I am still using.

@hotmail.com

I wrote quite a long reply the first time but it just did not make it. Not sure what happened.

Microsoft announces completion of the migration to Live.com of 400 million hotmail accounts. http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-outlook/archive/2013/05/02/outlook-com-400-million-active-accounts-hotmail-upgrade-complete-and-more-features-on-the-way.aspx

Thanks for the info, Matt!
I have tried to get confirmation on this from their support. All I get is the usual Microsoft Support Answers, 100% accurate and 100% useless.

The best after repeated tries is

Imap access became available on United States servers first.

It has been long enough that all servers should be updated.
Ok, I have confirmation (I think so anyway)

"Yes, anyone with one of the old hotmail, msn, live, or outlook.com email addresses can get IMAP."

I'll take this as a strong indication that the config applies to all domains. But it isn't proof. I'm 80% convinced.

Given that hotmail.com and co can now use the same config as outlook.com, move the outlook.com server config to hotmail.com, and add domain outlook.com there. I will delete outlook.com config.

Hotmail is best known and should stay being the main config.

Note: I cannot test, because MS decided to delete my hotmail.de accounts due to inactivity and I don't feel like re-registering every few months.

Move outlook.com config over to hotmail.com

We should also remove the previous outlook.com file, right?
Other than that, this looks good to me!
