From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.2+) Gecko/20010710 BuildID: 2001071021 If HTML is included within the text of a text only email body (see example) then it is interpreted when you try to forward the message. This makes the text quite unreadable. See http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/197926 for an example of a message. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Receive a TEXT only email with HTML code in it. 2. Click forward. 3. Notice borked message ;) Actual Results: Interpreted raw text as HTML code. Expected Results: Send raw text.
I should also note that you can work around this by clicking reply instead of forward and then retyping the To: field.

reporter, can you attach the message to the bug?
See http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/197926 for an example of a message. I do not have the actual message in my mailbox anymore, but if you read the above mail you will see what I am talking about. (whenever securityfocus comes back, that is . . . ) A quick recap of the message: -------------------------------- IE has such and such vulnerability where if you use the following code in a web page it will do something or other <html> <head> <META something or other> </head> <body> more stuff </body> </html> The fix is to not use IE. -------------------------------- It also appears to be interpreted before it gets to the mail editor. If you select 'view source' you don't get the HTML, but the text after interpretation.

confirming this bug on win98- 2001-08-07-06 You will see the problem when you use the attached message in the bug and forward it. I see this problem only forwarding this message with html compose and not with plain text compose. Also it is fine when you are replying to this message using html compose

I think I've seen this with Solaris/SPARC build 2001081710 as well. It doesn't seem to matter whether the "markup" is identifiable HTML. It hides anything with matched '<' and '>' which make strings like <protocol>://<hostname>/<path> fairly useless a they come out as :// /
