mapper is no longer used in automation, so issue is not urgent. There is some human usage of mapper, but the system now has a cron job to "auto fix" the setup.

I have no idea -- someone with access to the logs should be able to answer the question.

I believe the cron job in comment 2 (at least) runs on a devops box, so picking a random person there to answer. :)

+1 the cron job (that checks through commits to verify that they exist in the mapper) runs on the vcs-sync server.
