User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_8) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/29.0.1547.65 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: Launch Thunderbird 17.0.8 Actual results: heap-unclassified grew to > 2GB in <24 hours Expected results: memory should not leak
This leak consumes all available memory over a period of a few days drastically affecting performance of the host OS.
Severity: normal → major
Keywords: reproducible
Even trying to "minimize memory usage" on the memory tab does not have any impact on the heap
Does problem go away with thunderbird in safe mode - http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode ? With version 24? from http://getthunderbird.com/
Summary: uncontrolled growth of heap-unclassified on MacOS 10.6.8 → uncontrolled growth of heap-unclassified memory on MacOS 10.6.8

Safe mode did not address it. That said, I did not restart with all add-ons disabled; it's too difficult for me to do daily work with add-ons disabled, so I'll have to try that as a separate excercise. Of note, my Windows TBird has the same add-ons without this problem, so it appears to be specific to MacOS. Currently V 24.1.0

Are you seeing an hourly increase?
