Crash Data
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20130910201120 Steps to reproduce: Open Manage Newsgroup Subscriptions. Open search box. Type in first letter of search string. Actual results: Thunderbird crashes (exits) immediately after the first letter is typed and sends an error report. Restarting and repeating produces the same result each time. The only way to bypass the crashes is to enter a space first, then the search string, and then then remove the space before hitting enter. The subsequent search works, but searching is very slow compared with previous Thunderbird versions. Expected results: Thunderbird should have allowed me to add a search string and searched for the newsgroup.

(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #1) > This is likely bug 917955. Having now had a look at that one , it certainly looks similar - but I'm not technical enough to say.

definitely the same. Thanks for checking in the future you can go to Help | Troubleshooting | about:crashes and click on a crash links which takes you to the crash report. The report lists all bug reports on file for that "crash signature"
Status: UNCONFIRMED → RESOLVED

The report lists all > bug reports on file for that "crash signature" > OK. I'll try and remember that - but at my advanced age I wouldn't take any bets on it :-) Thanks for your help.
